so... can anyone think of a reason for actually keeping a spell slot occupied by a 500 point rune that HoTs for 1600 - 1800 on break. for me it lasts 2 mins 30 seconds and i cant think of 1 time i would ever use that. now if it were somethin that lasted maybe 10 mins at absolute minimum i *might* use it but planning on getting hit within the next 2 1/2 mins seems kinda stupid. from a raid point of view that is. heres an allak link.

Clearly a soloing tool. Higher, more efficient HoT, but only for the shaman when he's tanking.

even for soloing i'd rather keep up ancestral intervention over that, a heal that can crit for 24k for me (highest i've seen so far) is WAY better then a rune and a hot for a few ticks.

even IF you think you might be getting hit its almost easier to just HoT yerself instead of load spell, wait for refresh, cast, switch spells again, and check if yer gettin hit within the next 2 mins 30 seconds. i realize its inefficient to keep yourself HoT'd but we switch spells out constantly enough as it is and honestly, i cant even afford another spell set cause of the damn limit to save sets. it *might* be different if i could but even with that i doubt i'd use it much if at all.

In situations where you might be using this in Solteris, quite a few of the spells you have listed are irrelevant. You can change spell sets as you move from trash to different encounters as the situation demands you know, you are not forced to stick to a single spell set the entire raid.

It's a situation spell. Obviously if you are not likely to get agro you wouldnt mem it, but if you are likely to get agro it is one of the better survival tools available to us. To not mem it under those circumstances in favor of something like an extra damage spell is, frankly, stupid.

If you can't see the tactical advantages in that when something attacks you in the thick of a complex fight, there is no hope for you

Btw, this spell is a life saver when playing a second toon and you get a bad pull, so please don't further prove your ignorance like that Brohg. It certainly addresses what has been a major problem for me under those circumstances

I can see that the spell would be very useful to me if it could be cast on others, and very useful but for different reasons if it is self only.

Usefull to you? I dont' know, and I suspect you don't either because you either won't try or can't think out of the box.

"In the thick of a complex fight", I'm infinitely more likely to be casting one of the 10 other spells that are good, that I have loaded already, than to sit and mem one that may or may not do anything at all. It's not a good crisis management tool. It's not immediate enough, it's not powerful enough, it can't be sandbagged for long enough. If the rune effect were more like 50% up to 10k, it'd be a strong save-me-now; if the heal/tick were on the scale of Gemmi, then a shaman might say "that could really save my bacon if I've ended up on rampage accidentally"; if the duration were ~20min, base, then a shaman might wear it all the time as a just-in-case, similarly to Second Life. None of these things are what the spell is, though.

What Ward of Resurgence is (theoretically. I here ignore what I assume is an unresolved issue with the HoT not being extended by AA/focus. Otherwise, the comparison is upside-down and really bad.) is a slightly higher power HoT that's self only with the restriction that the shaman must be tanking to make use of it. Rangers have a similar spell, the Summer's Dew line, that is a higher efficiency, higher damage, chain castable nuke for them, but it adds tons of agro. i.e. They must be tanking to use it.

In order for Ward of Resurgence to earn a spell slot, it has to replace some other spell. The only reasonable spell for it to replace is Halcyon Zephyr, since there's only minor differences in efficiency & magnitude between the two. Now to the rub: as a bot, your valuation of spells is very different than real shaman. I imagine there are scenarios where you load multiple HoTs, like single-target and group, at once. I've never felt the freedom or need to do so. As a bot, you may find that 10 spell gems is enough for you to keep loaded Gemmi's Restoration and Ancestral Intervention and Halcyon Zephyr and Shade of Renewal and Ward of Resurgence and Ancient Wilslik's Mending and Kragg's Mending and Talisman of the Stalwart and Talisman of the Bloodworg (935 group heal woot~), but that's not the case for main shaman.
