Okay, but comparing haste to flowing thought is still illogical. Compare flowing thought to regen for a tank. Flowing though allows us to kill 100 mobs faster because we don't have to med. Regen lets you kill 100 mobs faster because you don't have to sit and heal back as much. You still can not compare haste to ft because they are completely different. Base your arguments between comparable things and you are more likely to convinve someone here.
Look at it this way. Haste makes a substantial difference in 1 fight, just as spell haste would. Flowing thought nor regen would make that much of a difference in 1 fight. Those are long term benefits and are very comparable. FT is constant regardless of level, regen is constant regardless of level. Now look at similar focus, disregarding aa's like you said. You mention all the mana regen spells a caster can have, but those are dependant on other casters, not the gear which is what we are talking about here. If you want to throw in buffs then we can add panther, champ, bard overhaste, regen, heals, etc to the mellee...but lets not do that. Lets look plain and simple at any given caster and their gear as opposed to any given mellee and their gear.
Haste...constant regardless of level, spell haste degrades past a certain level. You mentioned 40% haste in velious era, fine compare that to a 40% spell haste focus. Does your 40% haste become 36% haste with weapons with a recommended level over 65, 32% if the rec. level goes over 70, 28% if it hits 75? No, it doesn't but spell haste focus does degrade like that. Cleave, ferocity, and class specific mods like backstab and flying kick likewise do not degrade. If you get them at lvl 60 and they give you ??% mod, then at lvl 75 they will still give you that exact same mod. While extended range, improved healing, dot crits, etc. don't do that. They may give you 40% at lvl 60, but then 36% at 65 etc.
Now in all fairness if they didnt degrade focus effects on gear, then casters would complain because the focus on new gear wasnt any better than on the old even if the stats were better, or the focus themselves would get ridiculuos if they just kept raising them to keep everyone happy. It just seems unfair that without the focus effects a caster is sub par on the raid level, while a mellee can keep the same focus they have had for the past two or 3 expansions and function fine. If a new weapon or whatever comes up without a focus and a mellee takes it as an upgrade they lose 1 focus for better stats, dmg/delay, hp...whatever. If a caster upgrades 1 piece of gear for a focus effect then there is a good chance that they either have to upgrade 2-3 more pieces or just lose out on those focii.
