What books got you started on Fantasy?

When I was a kid, it started with Dragonlance, then LofTR. Then the Belgariad, Iron Tower trilogy, Wheel of Time, Shanara, etc. On eother note, when I was teenager I LOVED the Crystal Shard stuff, since my DnD group played Forgotten Realms. I read a couple Conan books, but in my opinion, the movie was better. Also, the Starship Troopers BOOK, not the movie, and Dr. Who....FYI, watch Blake's 7 from England for awesome SciFi/fantasy...more towards SciFi.

Back when I was 13 or so I used to goto this book store and buy my D&D books. I often looked through the different books but actually hate reading .. probably why I ask so many questions =) So anyway .. I have no idea how I got this book, must have been a really hot naked lady on the back cover of something but it was about this dude named Thomas Covenant. I don't even remember the name of the book but it was the first book I ever read on purpose. It was about this guy who I think had leparsay (sp) and some how he was transformed into a mystical world where he had all his body parts and was an amazing fighter .. but he always knew this wasn't him so on top of being sucked into this alter world and the disbelief of that .. people spent the time in the world making him do amazing things because he had some sort of power ... but he never believed in himself. I really need to find that book and read it again.

Besides that I really like the Dragon Riders of Pern ...
Terry Brooks .. a lot like Fellowship but some good stuff as well
The Tolkien books are a good read every couple of years

But for me it was AD&D manuals and Dragon magazine were my favorite!
