I've owned something like 5-7 copies of Ender's Game, I haven't kept track. Whenever I hear that someone hasn't read it, I give them my worn copy and go replace it. I'm like Mel Gibson in Conspiracy Theory with that book.

It's very near twisted, actually. I read a lot through the public library, because I want the freedom to feel okay about not finishing a shitty book. If I buy something, I feel committed to it. Whenever I'm book shopping, I keep looking at unknown authors and thinking "if I just bought another copy of Ender's Game, at least I'd know it was money well spent." It's really a very high standard to set for $7 US

Kinda backwards for me playing this game got me into the fantasy books. Incarnations of Immortality is a series I liked, my teacher recomended it for the assignment and I bought one and then switched classes but when I switched I decided to read it anyway so i just read the entire series because I liked it.

My books that probably got me into fantasy somewhat was the Xanth series (heh, triology my arse) by . If you click his name, you see a bibliography of his books, he spits them out faster than Stephen King (128 books up to 2005, wow).

I never really got into the fantasy series of books oddly enough. I got hooked around 8th grade, on ahh... lesse, the first 4 books by Jean M. Auel.. AHh Earth's Children series, the 5th bookw as just published like last april..
Then I dove into moms stash of some other native american books, along with her massive collection of Louis Lamour, although it wasn't particularly my thing, but it kept me entertained. MY current fix is Robert A. Heinlein. For those who havent heard of him, it's primarily Science Fiction, very good stuff, he actually wrote Starship Troopers, too bad the movie spoof was awful compared to the book. I believe they have another book of his, The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, on slate to go into production as a movie, just hoping they don't botch this one up also.

OH! Forgot the timely classic Douglas Adams and the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy series. good reads. Short, but good. marvin's my hero.

I read The Gunslinger by Stephen King, when I was about 12 or so. That got me moving away from the horror genre and into the fantasy/sci-fi side of things. Loved Ender's Game, I just got done re-reading it (for the umpteeth time) the other day. I can't say I was a fan of the other books in the series though.

Tad Williams is one of my favorite authors, I really enjoyed his Otherland series.

I've always loved reading. I learned at a very young age and then read fairly voraciously since then. During my college years I was always sad that I never had time for a good book anymore. Now I manage to read 4 novels a month or so. The first books I really remember reading (other than the first one, called "When will I read" ) as a child were 2 very fancy leatherbound ones. One was a copy of The Secret Garden and the other was a compilation of Jack London stories, they were given to me as birthday presents when I was pretty young.

I tend to read by author. I find one I like, then read everything I can find. Then move on!

The parallel series beginning with Ender's Shadow is very good, and much more action packed than the follow-on trilogy to Ender's Game. It tracks the other Battle School kids, who remained on Earth.

Tad Williams is fantastic, and David Brin, and someone as yet quite unacceptably unmentioned: Stephen R. Donaldson. To recommend one scifi book, Ender's Game. To recommend seven, The Gap series by Stephen R. Donaldson.

I like to read by author, too, but the last time I tried to go at one big time was Stephen King, and I just didn't make it, I had to sidetrack. I was motivated by references made in The Dark Tower... 5(?) that I clearly wasn't getting from his earlier work. Read through a ton of them, LOVED The Stand, but not all, and haven't yet gotten back to finish The Dark Tower.

Hobbit and Tom Bombadil at an early age, then the Lord of the Rings and Silmarillion at 11/12 then almost everything I could lay my hands on. At the age of 40 I still love the genre and am currently re-reading Terry Pratchetts Discworld books.
