I'll comment as a Ranger since I was one until this last year when I went full time on the Shaman. Rangers that have been in dungeons are better than ones that spent their time in a random outdoor zone. In a dungeon especially soloing you are forced to use all your skills to their max just to survive. In dreadlands if you don't snare, no biggy, getting an add would be uncommon unless you were grossly incompetent. Don't snare something in a dungeon and you will get a rude awakening. That outdoor zone allows you to run to a safe spot (zone) with less chance of dieing than a dungeon (you have sow and less concentration of mobs) but in that dungeon (like lower guk) you get to run thru tight corridors and thru alot of back spawns (without sow).
You can drop a person that has done nothing but dungeons in an outdoor zone and they will fair much better than the opposite. I had this issue when I first played Anarchy Online. I was with the rest of the "EQ" crowd that hunted in outdoor zones to gain exp and such. Then there was a point where you had to do a dungeon (mission) and you found that you completely sucked at it to the point you couldn't do it.
The point is you are forced to hone your skills if you do dungeons more so than outdoor zones. People that are dungeon hunters are better than non dungeon hunters in any environment, hands down.
Not all of us had maps layed out for us. We did have to experiment on our own, make our own maps. When I was a wee ranger I decided to run from Qeynos to Freeport not even knowing what Freeport was. I just knew I had to run east. I got to highkeep before I was too lost to continue. There I found two people that took me the rest of the way. Here is my map of the Chardok zone in that I made for when I soloed there (oh no! a ranger soloing in a dungeon). The addition of panic animal really helped.
