I think what's really bugging people more than anything is that whenever and wherever you learned to play EQ, you were also learning the EQ world for the first time; everything was fresh and new, and it was exciting. And for many of us, our first time in EQ was our first time in any MMOG, and we were learning the mechanics. It was a novel experience, not unlike when everyone is a freshman in college together, or in basic training together.
It took a long time to level up way back when, and you learned your game along the way. Newer players hit 70 in a month with help from friends, and they still have to learn the game, but as they play and read messageboards, they will... or they will be avoided, and they will not enjoy it, and they will stop playing.
And by the time the cap is 75, these 'new' people who stay will have learned their game, and will be just as critical of the newbies who start 3 expansions from now and get to 75 with no AAs and don't know their game yet. Just like people who started before Velious were critical of people who started after Luclin, because they had never been on a Naggy or Vox raid, and didn't care about Lower Guk or Old Seb.
