It doesn't make you run faster, it just eliminates a penalty. Its like saying str makes you run faster when loaded, but it just rasies the point you suffer an encumerance penalty.

Mayor Gubbin drops Jade Reavers.
A full suit of Blackened Iron gave some (unspecified, super secret) bonus.
A Plains Pebble in inventory made you eat and/or drink less.
Negative CHA makes Fear spells last longer and/or land more often.

But the one I liked best was actually proved to me.
Alcohol makes you med faster. (This is before UI's that showed a value to your mana pool)
If you sit and med (and does anyone remember staring at their spell book at lower levels while medding?) you could watch your mana bar go up.
If you drink a lot, the mana bar would go up quicker.
Of course, noone ever explained to me that my mana pool had been cut by more than half, so of COURSE it was going up quicker as a percent.
Sigh.....

Another one I am remembering is that the Glass Eye from PC helps with 1) Increasing Random Drops and 2) Increases /ran for dice rolls
