Glut of high-end shaman?

Postby Gruog » Sat Sep 24, 2005 4:20 am

I recently had to leave my old guild of 4+ years due to rule changes and the fact I could not maintian required raid %. I play PST and they play EST. I tried applying to a PST guild on Prexus but they have enough shaman. I have been hunting high and low for a guild that plays pst and has an opening, so far no good. I am CoA flagged and geared so going to some random n00b guild just won't do.

It seems every high-end guild has 5 or more shamans which is more then enough for 54 man raids. Is there just too many shamans in the high-end? lol I remember doing a /w all 60 sham in Velious days and seeing mabye 4-5 of us on Bert. Those were the days :D .

But times have changed. If anyone knows a coa or near-coa guild in need of a ubershaman let me know heh. I dont have the $$ for a server transfer but I will come up with something.

on CT has 4 active shaman, although I'm probably considered part time because I get stuck at work a lot and am usually late :/ (We're advertised as PST, but we usually start at 4, sometimes 5)
SR's shaman are all very close, and it's hard for us to accept new toons since it's just been the four of us together for so long - basically what Lickity said. We usually look for someone who can make their own place in the group and can pick things up without having to be asked, since that's how we work anyway.
If you're interested Gruog, you can shoot a tell to Jaradis (shammy who just happens to be our guild leader) to see if he's interested in adding another shammy to the guid.

I do agree with Samana though. My boyfriend and I transferred servers and we spent a long time looking around and talking to different guild leaders/officers/members across servers before shelling out $225 to move 3 accounts. I would suggested investigating if there's any internal drama too. We were fortuante to find out before we made our final decision that one of our top two choices was ready to crumble from all the internal struggles (and eventually did after we transferred).

Good luck whatever you do sir!

Plenty of room on Cazic, I can think of several guilds offhand that would be interested in you. If you want post coa, your mostly limited to my guild The relentless, and Silent redemption. we're a good bit ahead of SR atm, but I would think they'd be something to look at too.

Groug seen ya around on Terris forever. Sorry to hear about that. Raid percentage can be an issue for many. I work nights so I can relate. It is hard to maintain a raid percentage since I am awake when most are asleep and vice versa. Good luck bud. Even thought I have not had much interaction with you, I know you have been high end raiding for quite some time.

I wouldn't go so far as to say there is a glut of high-end shaman, but I would say there has been a real reduction in the numbers of high-end guilds. Many of Xegony's big guilds collapsed around WoW beta, causing shaman from many different guilds to eventually end up with the same tag over their heads.

Gruog, I feel your pain on the PST trying to play in the EST. More than half the time I log in, the big raids have been over for a few hours. Thank goodness for the DoN mini-raids and other small scale stuff! :)

Pretty much being able to make the raids consistantly is one of the key criteria for a raid guild. My guild, Dark Templars on Xegony is a Euro guild, we say that up front, we have it on our application pages etc, people still miss that fact. /sigh

Being a known drama queen is the single worst quality you can have. It will get you rejected pretty much out of hand. Our members make comments, and based on that the officers vote. I'd say the most common reason for someone being rejected is a strong clash with existing members of the guild. People have long long memories about wankers who have grouped with them, or trained them or been loot whores in XP groups.

Filled in accurate Magelos are required, stuff that indicates a knowledge of your class and a committment to your character are big plusses as well. Quested gear and spells etc are strong indications that you are strongly committed to that character. The ammount of AA's you have is a strong indication of this, it shows playtime, and playtime=committment.

The quality of loot you are wearing we expect to be generally laughable from applicants - that's one of the reasons you are applying, you want to advance and getting "phat lewtz" is a part of that. That being said we look at what you are wearing to try and judge what you are. If I can twink somoene to more hp/mana/ac/ft/haste with a million pp in the bazaar, I always question the players committment.

When you get in the ability to listen and do what you are told is pretty important, controlling aggro so you don't die all the time really matters. Working with others of you class well really matters.

We look at attitude and play time over anything else when considering a new applicant.

Can you maintain a 50% or higher attendance? Thats bare minimum, although everyone is understanding if you encounter a bad streak in life and need some time off, but the absolute worst time to have a 'issues' is during your app period. Folks that can't attend at least half our raids, historically, don't make it in the guild.

Flags and gear are something the guild is committed to getting you, but playtime and the right attitude is something you have to bring with you.

In terms of attitude:

Most raiding guilds are serious about raiding. And bickering and not working well with others really interferes with raiding. So being a pleasant, forgiving, cooperative person, who remembers the basics we all learned in kindergarten, is a good thing:)

Skill is an important factor also, but if someone has a high playtime, skill almost always seems to be something they have developed on their own. Of course, knowing the 'basics' of your class is a must. Raiding specific knowledge is something that we can generally provide, but a question like "where do I get this 'abolish disease' you speak of?" would lead many of us to doubt your overall skill (honest to god, we had a app ask that lol).

If you've never raided large targets before, have no doubt, it will show. But don't be discouraged. Asking questions and earnestly trying to better your knowledge is a key component we evaluate in a player. Application times are usually a month or more (at least in sheep), and so there is plenty of time to grow.

lol thanks for the advice but I think I have it covered. Running 750-ish AA with 9.6k unbuffed hp/9.8k mana..I think I qualify for "been there done that".

Well after a couple weeks guild- and app-less I have a few insights. First, the pressure to be online all time is gone and it feels quite good. I can stop and hit the store or whatever on the way home without watching the clock.

The downside is..I'm bored. Yes a 2-week old baby is a lot of work but there isnt much stimulating coversation there either. There is only so much time I can spend playing hotwheels with my 4-year old before I go stir crazy. Now when I log on I spent quite a bit of time LFG, usually PLin my BST (Gruogtwo Thesequel..gall darn i LOVE that name) while I wait. Then when I do get a group it is usually with a bunch of n00bs where I have more hp then the tank.

I have not killed Vish or OMM yet and I really want to...and I really want the green to buy DoD! I don't know how much longer I can handle this. After 4+ years of being at the top of EQ suddenly being thrust into the average population sucks. I guess now I know how Paris Hilton feels doing mundane jobs :D.
