The Astral

Known colloquially as "The ElseWhere," the Astral plane of Crucible is a popular destination among powerful adventurers seeking to escape the inevitable dissolution of the Ethereal Plane, due to its timeless nature. What isn't widely known however, is that actual physical travel from the Material Plane to the ElseWhere is unidirectional. While a great many spells allow for instantaneous transportation skirting the edge of the Astral, or for mental sojourning, characters seeking to travel bodily to the Astral Plane of the Crucible will require a more circuitous route to return!

The ElseWhere otherwise has traits matching the Astral of the SRD.

The Ethereal

The “NoWhere,” as it is known, is the last stop on the journey for living creatures that die upon Crucible (see the Afterlife. This mostly featureless gray haze is more dangerous than it appears, however, for in addition to the natural denizens of the ethereal, who are immune to its digestive urges, the plane is filled with the souls of the recently deceased, often made unstable by the ephemeral memories of their past life.

Differences from the SRD

Quasi-sentient: The NoWhere seeks to keep all visitors from leaving the plane, and exerts a subtle influence upon all intelligent non-native creatures, willing them to forget their troubles, remain for just a little while longer, and become one with the nothing. This influence manifests as a DC15 will save required every 24 hours a visitor remains in the NoWhere, with the save DC increasing by 1 for each additional 24 hours. Each failed save causes 1 point of permanent Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma drain, as the victim’s memories and essence are slowly drained away. Save DC’s do not reset until the visitor has been away from the NoWhere for at least as long as they were present upon the plane.

Wild-Magic: As the source of Arcane Magic upon Crucible, the NoWhere radiates overwhelming auras of all schools to detection spells, virtually blinding anyone attempting to view the plane with Arcane Sight. The NoWhere reacts unpredictably to spells and spell effects used within it, as described in the “Planar Traits, Magic Traits” section of the SRD, except the caster is not allowed a save for the effect to function normally. For spells that roll the “reverse gravity” effect, treat the plane as if it had both the “Heavy Gravity” and “Objective Directive Gravity (determined randomly)” traits.

Plane of Shadow

The last beachhead of Celestial and Infernal conflict, the Shadow Plane of the world of Crucible, or “The Twilight” as it is typically referred to, is an extraordinarily hazardous place. In addition to the constantly warring factions, the entirety of the plane is a constantly roiling mass of colliding positive and negative energy pouring in from the Inner Planes.

General Traits of The Twilight

Magically Morphic

Mildly Neutral-Aligned

Spells of the light and darkness descriptor have a 50% chance of being either impeded or enhanced each time they are cast.

In addition, all spells with the shadow descriptor are enhanced as described in the SRD.
