Need to understand

I first off want to say this board rocks. Everyone here he is very helpful and I do appreciate it all the advice thus far.

My situation is pretty common I'm sure these days. I took over a guildies shammy and I don't use it to its full potential nor will I ever since I personally can't while two boxing or what I mostly do is three boxing. I basically use my shammy to slow, hot, panther, very little dps and occassionally heal with a rare cc when I need to. Shammy has 1100 aa's and pretty well geared (up to CoA) with lots of TBS group armor. I have never played a shammy before picking this toon up so you can imagine how pathetically under used it is. I have been reading several posts in here trying to learn more about the class but I'm still lacking. Is there a guide for the aa's on what they do, spell lists for all spells (good God you guys have a lot) and general guide for shammy's? The warrior board has a lot of things like this but I don't know exactly where they are at here. I'm sure I have over looked them but if anyone could help me, I would appreciate it.

Well, you can start with the "Everquest Shaman" dropdown menu above. It covers the AA pretty well, but the spell stuff is mostly just lists. Your best bet for spells is probably still just going over to and looking them up.

As for "how to" sort of stuff, that's harder. You'll probably have to prowl through postings in various areas here, or ask specific questions about what you want to know how to do.

I dual comp a shaman with my Paladin. Have for several years now. One thing to work on are your Macros. EQ allows you to utilize 5 lines in a Macro built into the game. For XPing and such, macros are your friend. I have a Macro for Dots. I have a Macro for Nukes. I have a Macro for a mixture of dots and heals so I get both things going at once. I have a few other specialty Macros as well for specific situations.

The Macro allows you to accomplish several tasks without all the clicking. I can hit one button and cast 3 DoTs by the time the Macro is finished. Same for Sting of the Queen...1 button, 3 casts of Sting when it's done. Same for auto follow, one button I can target my Paladin and auto-follow him. I also have Assist keys set up to assist my Paladin for a target and then cast the dots and nukes and such. I have a Canni key that allows me to use all my Canni abilities and then cast a HoT on myself when it's done.

All that reduces the amount of clicking. I can hit the hotkey and then let the Shaman go on auto-pilot (as it were) for a few seconds while I focus on the Paladin. There is one risk though. Once you start a Macro you can't get out of it or stop it if you have to. If you need a spot heal from the Shaman and he's in the middle of his poison dot macro, you are SoL. But since my main is a Paladin, I can provide my own spot heals in a pinch if necessary and I have LoH to bail me out of a jam if it's critical.

Pauses can be used with just about anything. For example, I know a mage who creatively uses pauses with CoTH and /g to create output like the following, where the numbers count down the seconds left until you'll be CoThed:

duoing hard mobs, yeah it might be worth it, but I'm unaware of any studies to show how much of an actual diff it makes.

About the only time I play my shaman is when im boxing Kaki (paladin) and quite often its just the two of us or if i'm feeling really energetic Ill add a druid to the mix and 3 box. Quite often Im to be found in the pit in Vald or have also taken a few shots at 3 boxing Frostcrypt. Either way the fights last a while and I have found that cripple can have a significant impact on amount of damage Kaki takes. If im feeling lazy or just want a quick lesson burn with shammy and paladin Ill hit the Boneyard in Direwind or head to Ruins of Ilsalin; either loc I dont mem cripple really isnt worth it there.

Thanks for clearing up my misconception in regards to Panther, I was under the impression that its proc rate was based on swings rather than a set proc rate per min. I usually try to keep it and champ up at all times especially if im grouped but will start to do so as well when boxing as well. I acquired my shaman when he was already sitting at lvl 70 and 120 AA earned and spent primarily PoTime geared ( original owner quit just b4 DoN release ) so its been an interesting learning curve getting familiarized with his abilities spells gear etc.

Im wondering if the folks that dont use Panther, dont have the single version, as that requires DoN progression to get.

And as far as cripple goes, Duoing Warrior and Shaman I tend to mem Malicious Decay far more often then I ever used cripple. On hard hitting mobs where single pulling can be tough, MD and VP3 combo makes things fairly safe most of the time.

My normal duo lineup is HoT, Heal, Canni, MD, Poison DoT, Sting, Balance, and Panther.

Most mobs die in the time Balance runs so Turgurs isnt needed, and with Weapon Affinity 5 on war, Panther on him and pet seems to be the best DPS for the mana cost.
