It was really aggravating getting booted multiple times trying to log in my toons after the patch. Took me a day and half before I calmed down enough to actually sit down and dedicate some time to how to get around the problem.
In the end, I just went to each EQ directory for each toon and DELETED everything in the UI folders. Re-ran the patcher so it would re-download the missing UI files.
Back in game, I was still pretty pissed about being forced to use the "default" UI. I think it's crap -- spell and buff icons are too convoluted to tell at a glance what each one is. As a shammy whose trademark are managing buffs, that sucks royally.
But not only did I have to rearrange the misplaced windows from the crap UI, a couple of my key hotkeys were fubared... no clicky for joo.... it opens up a bag instead of clicking your epic or spear heal or invis potion!! Had to go thru several banks of hotkeys and re-drag and drop the correct keys into the correct sequence.
Only thing that saved the day was Drakah over at EQinterface already has a TBS version of the default_old UI, so now I've gotten all my toons back to the minimalistic but functional UI I've used for years. It really is amazing how after all these years I still slavishly commit myself to an up-and-down timesink relationship...
The best solution is not either/or, but best-of.
