That's actually a fairly workable solution, but it assumes that the guild has a number of Shaman available who have the healing AAs and Ancient Wislik's Mending. Shaman that are missing some of these can quickly find their heals are too weak to make this strategy worthwhile.

Unfortuantely most guilds tend to recruit fewer Shaman in favor of more Clerics. My guild averages 2 to 3 Shaman most raids (we've been hitting 4 a night this week, mainly because a Shaman that plays infrequently has been on quite a bit more, no idea how long that will last). Also, Shaman often have more important duties than healing on many raids (curing being a high priority on GoD+ raids due to the AEs)

For a guild that has fewer clerics and an "excess" of Shaman (relative to other guilds) this is definitely a good strategy to examine. It could also be a good strategy for some fights where the healers are practically certain to quickly run low on mana due to mana drain effects, since the Shaman can activate Spiritual Channeling and continue to heal while OOM for 4 to 5 minutes.

Scowls, there's really almost no coordination involved. There's no timing issue between people that's one of the great benefits of the system.

Spam your best heal until you get low on mana, call for next shaman to take over. Next shaman takes over spamming their heal. That's the whole essence of it.

As I say it's not for every fight, it works in some. Especially where heavy AoE's are the norm and you need clerics for group heals.

lol, this is edging past rediculous. Sure it's a waste of six shaman, but HE DOESN"T DO THAT. That was just a response to your previous idiocy about the Tunat encounter. And either way, 1-2 clerics do not replace six shm in that model. It takes... ready for this? Six. Six cle or six shm. People don't use shm on that encounter, though, since healers not on the MT are evaluated on how much damage they can add, instead of how good they are at group healing, because (back to previous points you've ignored) Tunat doesn't have heavy AEs. Got it? Tunat = heavy melee, low AEs = clerics do healing. He's not even a good candidate for this.

Never attempted Kessadona so don't really know what the fight entails. Thanks for the quick response though :-)

No, I wasn't referring to his previous post, but his latest. The "six shaman" business was specifically in refence to what it would take to heal Tunat's dps for 20minutes. Please follow the conversation (stretch for the Scowls parts, since he's a lil' off):

Veril : my guild uses shaman to main heal on Kessdona with Yoppas because Clerics group heal better. we've been doing this for months.

Scowls : your theoretical proposal is rediculous, because you can't chain Wilsliks for two minutes, and Tunat is too high dps. I want to dot things.

Other people : oh, that's neat. You've won like this for months? we'll try it too.

Scowl : I object further to your theoretical proposal based on internally inconsistent numbers that I'm basically fabricating. Who's this "Kessdona" cracker, anyhow? Tunat does way more dps than I can solo heal.

Veril : But Scowls, this isn't theoretical, we're not using Wilslik's, and we're not doing Tunat. Here are the real numbers. If we wanted to do Tunat, though, we could with six shaman. That'd be silly though.

Scowls : I think using six shaman to heal on Kessdona would be wasteful. Side note : I like pie.

Brohg :

Scowls : I didn't say pie! <fill in internet platitude to make me sound 'l33t'>

Everyone follow now? kgood.

Fwiw, 9-10 minutes on Jelven south is my best on chain spamming. This is using Daludas (rather then Yoppas or Ancient since I still use Qvic gloves) and doing a single cast of Nadox when AE hits (cleric in grp did grp heal). I'd pop Canni5 every time its up, always use mod rods, do anc canni every 30-40sec and using Spirit Channeling at around 30%mana. By the end of the fight, was at <5mana w/ almost no recourse for additional mana.

As to healing raid MTs based on raw numbers, this misses a few things. First while crit heals do count in pure stats, the /RNG is a really elusive creature. You will have times of 10 heals w/ no crits and then have 3 crits (w/ GoM procs on each) right after that. Additionaly, many mobs DPS have spikes that can kill MT in no time. Where a 16k crit cleric heal can cover this spike, a 6k crit cant.

But I will say this is an interesting idea that I will propose on Kess. Kess is the one mob we have issues with even when we have a high number of healers on (hydras).

We tried Kess again last night, didn't have anything like enough shaman for the 2 chains (we're also at Yoppa + various lesser foci, and not all the AAs on all), but the melee on Kess / ranged on golems worked very well -- our best try yet, Kess final form down to 24%. A couple of mistakes less earlier and we'd have taken her down.

The problem with this strat is that a shaman should EASILY be able to keep group up on kessdona. Only the retards not getting out of the breath AE cause much trouble and other then that a shm can easily heal the whole grp (even with that a shaman can heal the grp if they are paying attention), you do know you can cure the DoT with 2 casts of Nadox right?

Lets also point out how your clerics should be able to help out with heals on this fight for the exact reason shamans can heal. A light melee means u don't need many clerics for the rotation. So you add a few extra clerics in the rot and bam your clerics now have time to group heal.

I applaud the effort to come up with this strat, its very inventive and I can see how certain guild makeups would benefit from it. But for the most part its just not that effective compared to the standard roles classes play. Of course doing it just to change things up every once and a while is fun also~

So, we did Kess tonight and gave this theory a shot.

Now kess has alwasy been problematic for us since we are a very hydra heavy guild (we had no main clerics on for this) so avoiding AEs is tough. Tonight we had 1 shaman dedicated on the MT who had his own cleric doing grp heals only and hs shaman doing HoTs and occasional spots.

And this shit worked. We had our cleanest Kess kill....
