Maximizing Panther dps

Having both up is great. I actually have a bard I bot and both procs go off a lot. With panther up and the song it's proc spam city. Like lickity said the only way it would cause any major problems was if you didn't have enough swings per minute to actually proc as many times as you could.

I think default proc rate for weapons with no proc mod and no aa's or combat effects is 1 proc per minute. Lets say your dealing with a melee with ingenuity aa and some combat effects. We'll call that 2 procs per minute.

Lets say they have a 2 handed weapon or 1 weapon and shield for a knight and it has 2 procs in it, one innate and 1 auged. Thats 4 procs per minute.

Lets also say they have some sort of clicky or self buff proc for another proc per minute ( since most other things don't have a proc mod like panther). Thats 5 procs per minute (buffs don't seem to be modified by aa's or combat effects).

Lets threw panther and bard song on top of there. Thats another 4 per each so 8 more procs. Total of 13 procs.

Now lets assume a slower weapon with 30 delay. That means 3 second delay with no haste. With no haste and no double attack you'd get 20 swings or 20 chances to proc. Pleanty to cover all the possible procs. If you assume 100% haste between gear and haste buff you double that to 40 swings. Now if you assume even a 50% chance to double attack and you've got 60 swings in a minute.

If you take that out to something like a dual wielding, flurrying warrior with melee focus's so dual wield and double attack fire more often and you've got a whole lotta swings. Even so a class like a bard or bst with low double attack skill or something using a 2hder should still get more than pleanty chances to proc.

Only way I could see that being even remotely close to an issue would be a caster with a slow weapon with out any meaningful haste. Otherwise regularly melee's get sooo many potential attacks it's not an issue.

Don't laugh, I still have no uber weapons yet.

I've parsed my melee DPS and found that my best choice of weapon was my LDoN 125 poison-proc augged Delightful Orb of Forgotten Magic. Altho the aug and the innate Orb proc never have gone off at teh same time, often enough I will proc a leopard for 300 AND ON THE SAME SWING proc the Orb's 320 cold DD.

Before SCF3+ and my newer aug, I averaged ~40 DPS with the Orb.

Now it has the +175 DON Faerie Hex Stone (stun), and I happily crit 350, 600, and 640 quite often when meleeing. Leopard crits 600 about one in 5-6 swings, so almost twice a minute. Same with the Orb 640 crit, so a little more than once every other battle. The stun proc goes off much less, and dont' actually see it crit that often (once in 4-5 fights?).

(These are all off memory tho; time to pull out the parser and verify the hard numbers before I get slammed).

In this one tic (:46-:53), I had a streak of 4 procs, pup 2:
320 x 2 from the Delightful Orb
300 x 1 from leopard
600 x 1 leopard crit
300 x 2 pup's leopard

Proc crits seem to occur about the same rate as nuke crits, less then 1 in 5 casts. Leopard crits about twice a battle, while Orb crits once every other battle.

At the end the Orb proc landed <b>on the same swing</b> as the leopard proc. Seems to happen about one in 20 proc occurrences of the Orb proc. Also, Orb 320 proc often comes in pairs like above; no procs for awhile, then bam, BAM, 2 procs right after one another. My Faerie Hex Stone aug is kinda lame and often takes a full minute to see 2 procs, and it crits for 350 much less often.

I think I've only seen once where both leopard and Orb landed on same swing and both critted at the same time. But that was enough positive reinforcement to encourage me to melee more often, heh heh...

And yes, there is another shammy in group, which is why I got to melee He was pretty impressed at my damage output, esp since besides BoS then Bane on each mob, at the end I usually rained on the mob while meleeing it. Yoppa's Rain crits (1786) at least one wave every other cast; much less often do I see 2 waves crit. I have yet to experience all 3 rain waves critting (have FoMM2)

I think I made a DPS believer out of the other shammy (his main is a 70 SK with 300+ AAs). About 15 minutes into the grind, he started using his rains too

aye Procs as a whole can be out right madding to nail down.

And yes you are mostly right in that the proc rate scales to the final delay of the wep. But thats just on a per hit rate goes down the more you hasted so that the same amount over time is keeped. For panther say you get 10 procs per minete on avrage, This would make you proc 10 times a minete be it that in that minete you made 10 swings or 400 swings (first case you would proc every swing, secound you would proc about once every 40 swings).

So you could rate your procs as DPS by just takeing the proc damage times the proc rate devided by 60sec. that woudl give you the rough damage you would adcive over time and more likely what to expect from it.

I really think that the reason that Panther does nto normal proc on the off hand wep, is that It and all other proc shields only can get checked once a secound, so since most main and off hand weps for a duel weilder have a dly that is almost if not identical they have just about the same hasted delay and there by they swing just about as offten as one another. (or there only a tenth of a second off so they rarely swing out of the same secound intervault. Now IF this is true then that means that there is a max of 60 checks that can go for a proc shield (and the only ones that would come close ot that would be a SK with self buff panther, and bard song). So no you will not get any more "real" damage out of panther on a 2hander or a duel weilder, although there MIGHT be a small (very small) theratical diffrence in them. really panther is just as good on the top of the line rogue, the bazared geared rogue, A bazarre geared shaman, or a necro that never worked wep skills. It gives you the same DPS no mater where you put it.

the aug procs sound about right. say they proc just 2 times a minete max for 300 damage over 60 secs, or just about 5dps. Now he probley hasthe crit AA so lest say that bumps that up to the 6dps. or that could just be what the 175DD got him since that is about 350 or very very close to the 6dps mark. For rogues its all about loseing hate anyway so the drop of the DD's might have aloud him to do MORE BS damage before he had to evade out of aggro.
