Debuffing after rooting

My question is best described by actually explaining the situation.
Cast VP on a mob. Then PD it. Does the root last based on the resistance of the mob at the time it was cast, or does a debuff cast after the spell lands affect its duration?
Hope that makes sense

their is a chance to break root each tick. so every tick it should be re-evaluated.

When duoing with my Paladin/Shaman combo, I usually start Malos with Shaman and then just before it lands I hit the mob with a stun. Since Malos is slow casting, this is beneficial and save time. Since the stun > aggro than Malos, the mob comes to my Paladin every time. Slow is quick to follow this way and usually the mob is slowed with Discord about the time or shortly after it is engaged by my Paladin.
If doing a root pull with this combo, I try to cast Malos and then just after it lands, cast root with my Paladin. Paladin root is fast casting. The malos helps ensure the root lands like it should and is not resisted.
I would be interested to know though if a Malos cast AFTER root lands is figured into the resist check for each additional tick.

Just an aside:
Any debuff for the resist type of the root (Magic for most roots, Disease for VP), regardless of when it is cast, will reduce the random chance of a mob breaking free. It will not, by my understanding, reduce the chance of root breaking from a spell.
