When I said "downgrade" and "Ether Flame" in the same sentence, it was in reference to chaincasting and efficiency. To just blindly use EF each and every cast is not only suicidal, but bad wizardry. It's efficiency is a DOWNgrade, but an UPgrade in DPS but
only when it meets certain conditions, the main one being a GoM proc. I spoke about the downgrade in efficiency, and suddenly everyone interpreted me as saying "DPS" instead. I always said "downgrade in efficiency". For those who spoke purely about DPS, you have to understand that there is more to it than that. Over the same 5 minute period, with a 10k mana wizard, you WILL produce less overall DPS using EF than say....Thundaka. Follow me here for a minute before you hit the reply button with /flames on.
Efficiency is one of the core things I look at when playing, along with my expectations of how high is the overall raid DPS vs mob HP? Do I need to be in a certain position? Efficiency (i'll say again) is not the end all to a spell, from my perspective. It's a huge part of what a wizard does when a fight lasts longer than 2 minutes. Sure, it's high DPS to chaincast EF thru Silent Casting, but then I sit and watch the raid continue while I med up. *boggle* Maybe I could just hit Frenzied Devestation, and increase my mana consumption further?
If you're judging burst DPS only when he/she is nuking, that's an inaccurate calculation in my opinion. I mean, I could just nuke away until oom and then watch TV for the rest of the event right? For the first 2 minutes (even though the event lasted 4), I had 1891 DPS. Pretty respectable. Doesn't matter that 2 mins of the fight was 0 DPS.
It's a balance. If I expect the fight to last X period of time, I go in with what, from experience, is the most effective way to produce maximum damage over the entire fight, use up as close to and/or all of my mana, not take agro from the tank, and preferably be alive at the end.
I didn't come here to troll. I spoke up about, ..........hell it's so derailed at this point it no longer matters. I spoke up because this board had previously shown a level of maturity, and willingness to discuss topics in an intelligent manner. If you'd like to continue bantering at me at a personal level, that's fine. It's not like I really care; you're text to me. I come here because this stupid shit goes on constantly at the wizard boards, where someone asks for help, or says they think something should work this way or whatever. Suddenly you have a plethora of idiots badgering the person; most of the time not even reading everything they said.
