I have the lvl 55 version idol of malo so far, mainly just to have it, but one thing that bothers me is that we get our idol of malo 5 levels before we get the malo spell, but idol of malos 5 levels after we get malos.
Perhaps in the mid 50's + the idol of malo is a godsend, but it seems to me we would have been better off with something different for the lvl 55 spell, either some type of aura affect, or maybe some type of low agro AE cripple or something more beneficial that we could stack with the idol of malos, i still wouldn't even mind the idea of END regen.
I guess my question is: Is it really necissary to have 2 idol of malo(s) spells when the lvl 55 version could be something better we could use in addition (maybe not in conjunction) with the lvl 70 idol of malos?
Something to think about and perhaps i'm alone in this thought, but this early into the expansion would be a good time to ask for any changes if others feel the same way.

The level 55 spell is obsoleted by a level 70 version for all classes. They're in game to let lower level players have access to auras/traps and get used to them. The super bonus of getting Malo five levels early is just a little bene for being a shm. A little "above the curve" power-wise, but only a little, so we wink and say it's okay.

i have target closest npc bound to number pad 0, cyclye npc number pad 1, and cycle pc number pad 7...but targeting a idol really is annoying. I mem and drop it when i expect alot of adds, and the last thing i really need in those times when split second timing is critical is an idol on my target to assist heal. hopefully they will be re-coded as a ward, click targetable but not F8 targetable.
the one good thing about them is, if you target and "/pet who leader" it replies "I follow no one", so i can blame someone else for it, /laughs.

Finally finished getting idol of Malos a few nights ago, have had a chance to play with it over the weekend, in certain exp spots its fairly useful except that it tends to draw some unwanted agro on NPC's you expect to be out of range on occasion.
I thought the idol was an AWESOME addition to getting things slowed in p1-2 of our weekly time clear, just summon the idol in the middle of the area waiting for mobs to pop then just click away til they're slowed. Got to use it a bit on p5 trash, but i'm not sure if it really helped a whole lot, it got several complaints about the target.
I would like to request that perhaps we get the idol changed to a player type target such as pets or wards that aren't targetted via F8 (or whatever key you have mapped), perhaps maybe even find a way to extend the duration of which the trap is active via foci or just extending it?

I would definitely hound the devs heavily if the thing is casting through walls. It -really- shouldn't do that.

it is 100% casting through walls. I dropped it in Greigs and had a mother of a train

Being alert and ready for adds, I can cycle BoD and my slow stick and clicky root pants to slow and root several mobs very quickly. It's the kind of crowd control many shaman do already, but Idol helps with bounced Turgur's and roots slightly, but then again I only have the level 55 Idol with -30 resists atm. Still better than not having any Idol at all.
Glad to hear an enchanter is finding it useful. I imagine other casters reap some benefit. Unfortunately many shaman are probably still at a learning stage on where and when to use Idol effectively. And since we have no way of dropping aggro, incidents like Veril's Grieg train will prove to be fatal learning experiences until the aggro problem is fixed.
In the long run, Idol of Malos can kill shaman more times than Ancestral Guard will have saved them.
