It's late, the z-bar is kicking in, and EQ is approaching 7 years old. Time to share snare.
Here's my experience with using snare potions.
Alchemy vendor on the boat in Abysmal Sea has ingredients
Make LOTS since they stack to 100 (and are cheap to make)
Only use Ensnaring Concoction3, the DOT portion for higher ones not needed/wanted (esp. against summoning mobs)
Need a potion in both the range and ammo slot to throw them
Practice range and useability in Everfrost on greenies. (range is fairly limited)
Made a bandolier called SNARE:
1) Primary has Hammer of Spiritcalling
2) range and ammo have a snare potion each
3) make a range hotkey on same page as the Bandolier Snare page
Uses:
No other snarer for runners--
When there is no reliable snarer around, I will melee until I get the Granite Crush spam message "XX is crushed by a large rock". This does around 25 a tic , and lasts around 5 tics.
If mob is getting ready to run, and Granite crush is not running, I will stop meleeing to allow the RANGE hotkey to pop up. Then I will either back up or range-throw a potion right away to snare the runner.
For pulling --
To get some separation in a potential 2 or 3 pull, I will snare one of the incoming, and use VP to lockdown another.
For snare-kiting --
The duration of potion-snaring is not long enough to snare-kite with (unless you really, REALLY wanted to instead of root-rotting ). However, you can assist the necro puller if he either gets a resist or has 2 incoming and one is not snared. This buys him time to snare the unsnared, and you can then snare kite one mob each. In Creators and the Nest, this works really well. However, in 69.1 missions, be aware that the drachnids shrug off the potion snare quite quickly...
What's niftiest is the amount of shamanigans you can do on a mob or two before anyone even takes a swing: You can pull with Malos, bando-snare, bando-slow, and cripple that one mob, while you managed to MD/punt the other. Lotso debuffing in less than a tic. This a great example differentiating the experienced shammy from a level 70 monster mission sham impostor
This may be old news to some, but hopefully to most will be most useful. Off to wonderland now...
