This may fall under the myth category, but yes, there is a magic number. The drop rate on collects below 24 or above 27 seem to be terrible. I would often decline those collects, and the group always agreed, until we got a collect between 24-27. It might have been fixed or totally incorrect, but hey, it doesn't hurt to be superstitous and get a reasonable collect mission.

When I was rabidly grinding LDoNs I deliberately chose whatever collect mission came up. There didn't seem to be any pattern to it (but 20 or so isn't a big sample)...
For example, there were only two that caused me to panic a bit, going down to the last minute or two - a collect 24 and a collect 20 IIRC. The others (from 20 to 30) took anywhere from half an hour to 75 minutes to complete. FWIW the half hour ones were both collect 20s, but I'd imagine that's more a fluke than anything meaningful.

Here's a thread describing my experiences 2-boxing LDoNs to get Bane. The collect 20 goblin teeth in Hidden Vale layout (NRo entrance) was by far the easiest one to win.
Bane is worth every hour it took to get it.

Well, thanks to a few guildies I was able to get my last 100 points at the EC camp and I hit 70 and got my last muramite rune for Wunshi all on the same day!
I guess for me the answer to my question was Level 70 and Bane, haha.
