Suggestions for new Spells?

i guess "us guys" know what shaman want more than a chanter? its mostly abo ut principles, imo. shaman abilites have been farmed out to the extreme to other classes, yet we still are unable to use pet focus items from 5-6 expansions ago. the shaman world is full of small steps (DoTs, HoTs, many smaller buffs) and not big large giant leaps (massive hp buffs, stopping a mob completely[mez], supersized fast casting large heals). personally i would love a pet focus, even if its the LDON aug...not something i would wear all the time (alot of pet classes dont wear pet focus all the time either), 200 more hps and 5 more dmg a hit doesnt sound like alot, but it adds up over time. it doesnt break the game, its insignificant, yet placates many classes asking for pet focus. the effort is worth it, its their (SOE) work and my benifit...someone giving me something just for asking is ALWAYS worth the effort. i know many chanters that are also asking for the same thing, SK's as well. maybe you should listen to your own class members wants better, and realize its OUR issue, OUR benifit. your a class rep, represent your class, not your own peronal wants and wishes. if chanters are asking for it as a whole, if it doesnt hurt the class, then why isnt it good enough to support?

My comment was intended to point out that it would be nice if my pet could survive and fight along side me. I understand he's not going to be the most uber pet on the block. I don't expect him to dish out tons of damage. I do want him to live past the very first AE in Tacvi (which he never does). My comment about the plane of Time was meant to show that even in content that I consider utterly trivial to the point of boredom, the AEs will put my dog to sleep before I can target and heal him. I did not intend to imply that someone wearing end-game foci would bother farming the plane of time... <mutters> unless they had 40+ Saryrn kills under thier belt and STILL DON'T HAVE A DAMN TA! <sorry for the derail>

Sure it's all about incremental increases, but Unmei is right that 1.2 x (a very tiny number) is still (a very tiny number).

Right now our pet is what? 30% of a mage pet? less? call it 30.

.30 x 1.2 = .36 -- still really not much of anything.

The mage pet has already gone from 1.0 to 1.2, of course.

Getting a new pet spell that would put dogdog at, say, 45 or 50% of a mage pet would be far superior to needing to get (omg yet another) focus in order to move from 30 to 36%.

Agreed. Getting a pet focus that bumps up puppy's HP/AC a little just to "placate" shamans is not a good idea. We need a pet upgrade. Pet crit AAs not a bad idea either.

Obviously -asking- for pet foci isn't much work. The point is that for the devs to implement pet foci involves them creating new versions of all pets that are focusable with all possible focus items. That's a nontrivial use of dev time, and the benefit to your class will be tiny.

Believe it or not, I'm actually trying to give good advice; Nothing is ever 'free for the asking' - there's some amount of dev time involved in every change in this game, and in general, it's a good idea to ask for things that would either be a large change, or would, at least, require relatively little dev time. Asking the devs to do a ton of work for little gain for you is just setting yourself up to be told off - either now, or later when you ask for something that's actually important.

If you want your pets to suck less, ask them to give you a new pet that sucks less, or a pet buff to make your pet more worthwhile. Don't ask them to go to a ton of work so that dogdog can have 20% more of his sucky hitpoints.

You want a good pet ability? Ask for an ability or buff that transfers all the damage taken by the pet to the owner.

Because when this is activated, dogdog's hp pool is now 12000 or 14000 hp deep. Because even though the shaman is taking the damage, the shaman isn't being hit or stunned, so the shaman can self-heal without getting interrupted. Dogdog with panther would be able to whittle his way through some fairly tough mobs, taking hits that would normally one-round him; while you stand calmly off to the side a little, with GRB, a HoT, and an occasional spot heal on yourself.

Plus green pet pulling would work every time.

lev the group? i generally click my shield of striding and link while my group swims across the zone...i came prepared, they should have also. or i suppose you could carry potions with you and hand them out to foks, but then they start to expect others to hold their hands...
