Im very late in the duscussion of all this, but i read through the 1st 3 pages and some of the 4th.
Now ive only been playing the Shaman since 2003, but Ive been with eq since early 2000. IMHO there isnt much that needs to be discussed, as Beth has said in his one long post on page 2 or 3, EQ is loseing its fun, and the only thing that keeps people around are the friends we made in game. EverQuest has progressed way to far, and things are just getting out of control. All this new shielding, dot shielding, accuracy, augs, thousands of aa, 300+hp/mana, 100+ac 40+ to all stats on items is just out of control. Uhm i remember when armor like Rubicite and Mithril 2hander, and Sentinel armor was 'uber as hell'. You had more fun exploring new zones, the thrill of being attacked at any moment, the excitement of turning up your music all the way up so you can hear that Hill Giant creeping up on you from behind. EQ is getting old, and the only way for long term players to have fun again is to over progress the game to keep us busy for a month or 2...ppl already bored with DoD? AA exp has increased so much per kill that its easy to get 5-6aa a day grinding it out. I remember when aa first came out....Even getting those 6aa for Baron title was something to be proud of. Sure we got a few new titles now, but there is nothing to really look forward to in the game. Sure im in a guild that raids we are working on MPG trials and tacvi access. Thats all fun but i dont do that the entire time im logged into the game. Sure i spend my time with alts, but even those classes are still really getting jacked in stuff. Everyone in EQ is going through a "we want, we need" phase. We want things to make us never die, we need things to heal better, to do more damage, to tank better. We are not gonna get them.
SoE came into the picture 2 or 3 years after EQ came out. Most of them did not play the game end game, and if they so happened to play it, they had to stop because now they had to work on developing it. So ofcourse they are gonna be clueless on what they need to do to make the game great. Everyone wants to become even better have more hp be able to do this and do that. Dont get me wrong even in old eq we wanted that, but there were easier ways than pestering one another about we need so and so spell, we need so and so aa. Back in the day if you wanted to become better you just got better gear and grinded out those levels.
Classes seemed to be pretty well balanced
Now im not sure how many of us want to quit and leave EQ behind but i am generally excited about a certain game that was made by Original EQ developers themselves. Thats right folks im talking about Vanguard. I know its hard for alot of us to quit 6years of what we have worked hard to accomplish in Everquest. But why just keep playing a game thats designed to be fun, when it really isnt, just because we all spent to much time playing?
Vanguard should offer all of us who seek the 'evercrack' feeling and the fun in a real MMO.
Now i guess ill talk a little about the whole reason of the thread, and the biggest discussion: druid vs shaman healing.
I view it like this. Go ahead and up the druid healing. Give them all the healing they want.....I personally do not enjoy healing..its to trivial for me, i do how ever enjoy the fact that we do get some healing capabilities, but i rather dot and not. Also if druids heal better, it just means we do not need a cleric in the grp, a druid/shaman should function same as a cleric/shaman. Shamans are also known for our debuffs, we slow, malo, cripple ect. In this day and age that has been overlooked and is not really needed. I always enjoyed knowing im making a certain creature weak and hopeless. Gah again im back tracking to the days when we had all this. I guess what im getting at is, Yes ill agree its lame that druids are now getting a gp HoT....but so are we....if you hate sitting there with lfg up all the time...there are alot of instance zones now where you can pick up a tank healer and some dps and make your own, rather than waiting for ppl come to you.
Most of us here are also in high end raiding guilds. Wouldnt a druid with a grp HoT benefit the overall outcome of the raid???? More healing power versus the overly used AE all these bosses seem to have is very good imo. I know in our guild druids with another means of healing a full grp is a plus, and shamans being able to do the same....you can keep almost everyone in the raid alive with that kind of ability. And thats always a good thing?
I dunno just trying to view the plus side of all these new spells....sorry for the very long post =). But dont mind me, im just an ignorant 17 yr old who doesnt know what hes talking about lol. At anyrate Enjoy your adventures in EQ, Happy hunting!
