I would say that they are very important. Having that group HoT makes a huge difference and a very nice Poison DoT adds to our root rot ability. I often use the dot in normal groupage. Throwing on a dot that hits, for me, at about 700-1500 (with crits) per tick adds some usefull dps if the mob stays up long enoough.
