DoT Comparison

Quite a few fellow shaman have asked me if its worth casting one dot over another. Figure il just post it all up here.



The results are about right for the level of the spell, with the exeption of Breath of Wunshi and Nectar of Pain.
Of course Nectar was the latest release of our dot spells, in which the Dev took consideration of all of our problems. It would have been nice if our previous dot spells would also have been considered, but oh well.
I was a bit suprised at our Disease based dot, as it is supposed to have been not only much more mana efficient but done more total damage. I guess I am just still liveing in the past.

disease dots were jacked up a while back when they revamped them. the mana costs/durations and dmg was adjusted poorly. 2.5 min dots duration wwas lowered but the mana cost and/or dmg wasnt increased.

most of the time i use sislak still, but thats ony because i wear my magic focus, and would have to move gear to wear my poison focus. and dots are the first thing i generally unmem if i need to rebuff or cure or something. fights are generally to fast paced to make dots worth casting, so i load melees up with panther, which can start to strain mana on its own, then add in debuffs, heals and champ, mana for direct dps is few and far between at times.

Efficiency from the point of view of spell design is dmg per tick/mana per tick. Unmodded Shislak is about 4.75 and Wunshi 6.24, which is a significant difference in efficiency. I'm not sure what it works out to with focus effects, but since those effects would be proportional across both spells, that ratio shouldn't change. Prior to the changes Wunshi was 6.32. Basically all they did was increase the dmg/tick and decrease the duration, such that it kept more or less the same efficiency. That was done in response to community arguments that long duration DoTs like the original disease versions lasted too long to be effective in modern encounters.

I just do not understand the point is casting the disease dot. It would be more efficient just to cast Panther on myself, as it lasts even longer (1:47 w.focus), does more damage (70-80dps), and costs less mana. And because of the fact that Malos has no disease debuff, you would have to then cast another debuff (Decay) on the npc in order for the 1 dot to resist less.
I honestly do think it is an issue that needs looking at. But knowing the Devs, instead of improveing Breath to be more on par of what a disease spells supposed to be, they will just nerf the rest of our dots to balance it out.

older shaman soloing included using disease dots that lastes 2:30, that did the same damage, for the same mana as now, they were much more efficient, and on older world mobs you could live thru the mobs low dps. apparently SOE thought it was helping shaman by making the duration the same for all disease dots by lowering the duration, but their version of common sense is different than most. i rarely pull out disease dots, with the rare exception of root/dotting in fire and the hive. its nice to have one of my dots not have to be recasted every 40ish seconds, but i usually end up replacing the disease dot to mem both maliciaous and putrid decay for the poison debuff

Not sure what you guys are talking about or getting at, but the disease DoTs used to be more efficient, used to do more damage total and less damage/tic prior to the DoT revamp.
