Ok, so my co-worker plays a 62 shaman working his way up. We were looking at his dot arsenal, discussing how to maximize his solo capability and stumbled onto a strange thing...
vs.
Aside from the lack of dd component (and the obvious utility for root roting), Pox is a far superior dot, obtained 5 levels earlier. Higher damage per tick, less mana, the dd means better dps overall and the same duration on both dots. Something must be amis, so I look at the history. Historically, the upgrade from Pox to Breath included the removal of the dd component AND a fairly significant increase damage/tick and duration at an increased mana cost. Now you get less dps, the same duration at a roughly similar increased mana cost. Add to all that the fact that both spell's cast time has almost doubled, defeating the purpose of making these better tuned for the short fight.
Is this something that we should ask the new spell guy to re-examine. I belive the shaman working his way through the 60's would greatly benefit from an increase in duration or damage to Breath of Ultor. And it certainly wouldn't be imbalancing considering how long it was the way it was before.
