Was my understanding SKs can use the spells back to back, for twice the mana regen (but that may have changed recently with all the "spell line" timers) ....

They can cast one Ancient Bite, and one normal Bite. Normal Bites are on a shared timer, and Ancient Bites are on another shared timer. So when they loot the newer & better Ancient Bite from OoW, they're done forever with the old one.
