Question about Faction for Epic 1.0

Hello,
First of all, I would like to thank the members of this board for the tons of useful information I have learned. This is the best place I have found for EverQuest information. In fact, my wife plays a druid, but she gets most of her general information here.

My question is about the faction required to receive the epic 1.0. I have the childs tear, and I have done everything in the quest up to the trip to the Hole. Can I simply max my faction, skip the Hole, and turn in the childs tear? I have read old post about faction being at a certain level and that your faction could be too high for a turn in. More recently I have read about people simply maxing faction then getting the Tear and doing turn in. Does the situation where faction can be too high no longer apply?

I have helped friends with the grind through the Hole, and I really did not want to go back if I do not have to. I always get lost down there. But if it is needed, then I will. Any information you can provide on this will be greatly appreciated.

From your point in the quest, should only be 3-4 trips of Woe/Envy/Marr->WKarana->EJ to cap faction. Grats spear sir.
