I did The Hole soooo many times for a myriad of paladin/ranger/shaman/enchanter/shadowknight epics that weren't mine. By the time Brohg's turn came around I wasn't even interested. So I skipped it, and it doesn't cost me any sleep at all.

There's no special method or trick to skipping The Hole. The entire Spear of Fate quest is end-run by straight up faction work, since there are no combines or flags along the way. Just have sufficient faction and turn in the Iksar Scale looted from Rak'Ashiir to get your item.

The quickest way to raise faction is, as mentioned above, to run Woe/Envy/Marr from Rathe Mountains to West Karana, and the Gem (glowing, pulsing? something) you get there to Emerald Jungle. Tabien the Goodly and um, the other guy.., respawn in two hours, so go again. Once you can do turn in (indifferent, iirc. whatever you're at after finishing Patience), it only takes five-ish runs of Woe/Envy/Marr - Gem to cap out faction.
