The purity augment is an upgrade to the existing armors, nothing was downgraded correct? I don't know why you can't see something like this as a bonus that you can group for rather than something you MUST have today and will be forced to do unpleasant grinding to get.
I honestly don't understand why being able to upgrade your raid armor through grouping would be any issue at all. I'm just boggled by anyone being upset by this. My advice would be don't do it.
