I have known people in the past who've used MQ or similar to just check on mob spawns - a similar advantage to a ranger. I have also been aware of at least one person using the movement hack part of it too. Then there's the ghost killings, though the fuss about that seems to have died down a bit.

Pet owner's names above the pet is a minor thing, and it's a change I wouldn't mind seeing in the game proper. However, the point is, if they're using that program at all, we have no way of knowing how much. Is there shades of grey in cheating? Does it matter anyway?

my point was....that if you set yourself up as the judge of what cheating is "ok" and what isn't, you create headaches. sony only cares about incoming $$, so unless it gets soooo b ad that many people quit, they will allow most everything.
imo, breaking the rules in a game like eq is like anything in life. going 5 mph faster than the p[osted speed limit is not frowned on by too many, but lying to get in the special olympics is frowned on by most.
i don't want the headache, so unless it costs me something, go ahead and ruin your chance to see what eq is really like.

In sidebar, though I haven't personally engaged in it, the actual buying & selling of in game items based on external currency doesn't directly affect the game itself. It's the secondary activities (i.e. exploiting, botting, and actual hacking) incentivised by that economic activity that are truly detrimental. Anything that doesn't involve cheating is zero-sum in in-game terms.
