Zaviax a large part of this is that if you can use voice, it's a lot easier to communicate that text.

our guild has some unofficial Teamspeak channels, mostly groups of friends though. more of a place to talk shit without any risk of a screen shot of an embaressing tell, or mischannel. i downloaded it when we tried to make a bigger use of it, but 54 people talking at one time made communication near impossible. plus foriegn languages, slang terminology, and accents didnt help (a guy from tennesee making clear commands to a guy from hong kong was almost funny). to me it made the game much more personal than i wanted, i really didnt like spending more time physically talking to my computer than my wife and kids. and kids screaming in the background during raids ROCK as much as the guy who chats with his stereo blasting death metal while he plays eq

Voice chat (TeamSpeak, Vent, whatever) for the win. I couldn't live without it anymore, in whatever game I am playing. Call it a crutch all you like, but it's a huge advantage, as most people can speak faster than they can type. Quick communication is key for success.
I haven't used it in a very large raid situations, but it's very comfortable at the ~40 range. It just takes a little discipline, same as with a text raid channel.
I've been using voice chat for years now and I am on it anytime I am playing EQ or any other MMO. It's pretty much required if you want to group with me (I don't group with total strangers, so it's not a surprise for them). I mainly use it with my same extended group of friends, it's so comfortable now it's like we're playing in the same room.
