Such a generic question I'm ashamed to even ask

I will be honest with you a shaman / sk combo is great.
And if you wanna casually come back go for it.
I would hang my self with out raiding though. Specially these days.
There is some good casual gamer gear you can get but also most of the missions you can do as a casual gamer cant be done in 30 -60 min a day =(
that's my few cents.

What could make it "not worth it" for you? If you enjoyed the playing experience all by yourself how you were, and the content is still there, why wouldn't you? What's the downside?

Back when POP was the most recent expansion, about half my time camping my sharkspine club was done duo with a shadowknight. This was with 1300hp Tnarg's and 300/tick Quiescence. I had elemental sleeves for +25% healing and all the healing AAs.
I also did a good deal of duo action with a Shadowknights in places like Qvic, MPG, and Riftseekers, even so much as duoing parts of Ice side in RSS.
Assuming things haven't changed radically in the past year (hah) I'd suspect this is still the case.

Six scales and 10k? are you nuts? The craftsman would laugh... all the way to the bank! That's WAY too much compensation for a combine you're providing materials on. Nearly all craftspeople aren't capped in their skill, to begin with, and so you're providing them with an opportunity to skill up on your dime. Provide your three scales, and 10k as a nice fat gratuity. Doubling the rare materials provided is like paying them an additional 150k for the combine...

I agree that 3 scales is too much of a gratuity. But realize that there is a cap on the success rates for that armor of around 60-70%. So there is a very good chance that the tradeskiller will fail the first attempt, and a non-trivial chance that both attempts could be failed. So it is a good idea to expect to farm up extra scales to cover failures.
Paying some cash for the combine is a good idea. 10k may be appropriate, depending on your relationship with the tradeskiller. Others may be willing to do it for less, and a friend might do it for free. The value of the 'opportunity to skill up on your dime' will vary from tradeskiller to tradeskiller. I don't put a lot of value in that. I can find combines to grind when I want to.

Another thought on getting groups. While there is limited content you can tank with your SK atm, when you get groups, you can advertise your SK as a puller rather than a tank. This way you can get decent groups to work on improving your SK's gear so that he can tank better content down the line.
