The Spirit Realm

Ok, we all know that shamans are able to solo old school raid level mobs, so here's the question: What is the hardest raid mob that you've been able to tank or that you believe that a shaman would be able to tank? Just thought about this on the long drive home for spring break and was wondering if a modern-day shaman would be able to tank raid-level mobs (was thinking most likely PoP era stuff, I figure that stuff after that would just have too much punch for clerics to keep up with). And, what do you think that a shaman would be able to do to keep agro on something like that? Don't know if chain slowing (with 2-3 different slows)would be effective or if you would wind up with mana problems doing that. With spirit channeling, it might just be possible to do that, but I've never tried to do that intentionally.

Stupid question, most likely, but just wanting to try to find some things to do on days off from raiding and bored in PoR . . .

Here's my new agro weapon as a Shammyknight:

Last time raid we did, Abzo (guild shaman) tanked TT down to about 35%

Edit - We're not uber uber geared... think he was about 10.5k/2300 fully buffed or so, to give you an idea.

Jaundiced armour has plate look, and probably mostly purchasable in Bazaar !!

As for tanking, guess it depends how "cutting edge" ya wanna be and what sorta healing ya got backing ya

I suspect we could prolly "tank" anything up to Arch Magus Vangl in Anguish with the right heal setup (after all, it just comes down to HPs really ) Although, it might mean 6-7 clerics on pause Zero rotations

As for aggro, the slow line and cripple line generate the most ... if wanting to maintain aggro, but conserve mana, chain cliking a TA is semi-effective in holding aggro .... however, if you were really serious about generating the most aggro in the shortest time, then load the 1.5 sec cast slows and chain em (discord and nhil)

Ya, that was what my idea was for agro generation, except I'd have to use the spells instead of TA (/cry, I still want one). I'm currently around 8.5-9k unbuffed, so around 12k raid buffed and around 2200 ac buffed. For healers, most likely would have a few clerics/druids, but this is just for giggles. Probably would host it as like a PU raid or something for backflagging people in guilds we know. Probably will never happen, but, just something to do on a slow off day

vindi BP is plate and awesomeness cause it was for the longest time THE bp i was going after and now am so proud of it.

as for aggro the lowest level cripple is super fast cast and i think i remeber using that for getting aggro, or just crippling spasm but yeah i dont know much about this stuff, healing yourself is good mana as well

The highest agro is to find a corner to plant your ass in, stack up five dots, then start crippling and blinding. Double EB-aug your epic to melee in the recast times, get all the reverse-proc buffs on. Chain slows are not even close to enough. You need the agro of dots to hold a mob, or plain melee damage will peel the boss off you bare moments after the first melee pops a disc.

I know that uhm.. some chick tanked Fennin Ro back when PoP was hot.. she was like 7k, MAYBE 8k unbuffed.. can't think of her name or server though and that was pretty pimp at the time. I agree with everyone else though, we could probably tank most stuff up to and including anguish, just needs alot of aggro and clerical help. And some mobs don't put out as much dps as others.. think of the original hanvar (like what? quad 1k hits? big deal), vs oh say... Qrat Tiv Barxt, or whatever the fark his name was (we called him Root Beer, since barxxt is kinda similar to that one rt beer brand)... Barxt is a homewrecker when it comes to dps dished out and hanvar originally wasnt. still isnt bad either..

It drops in The Hole from . I got it long ago, who knows if it still drops. As far as I know, its probably the easiest (if not only) 1HS weapon that a shaman can use and get. I've seen them for sale in the bazaar, so I'm guessing they still drop. I just wish it had a better graphic, but, it does drop buff requests from people just looking at me, now the people that do /who all shaman 70 still get me . . . (I just never bother to go /anon when in PoK or the GL).

As for the naming conventions, ya, I understand that, but, comeon, Amused Bynoobs? . . . My actual surname until yesterday was Hitatomi, I just made it up one day about 6 years ago, can't tell you the number of times I get /tells from Japanese people. I think it is similar to some cartoon or something.

Heh, in some testing tonight with my Spellkeen Wand O' Doom . . . I can't seem to hit anything. Maxed 1HB and near 1900 attack buffed, wonder what the problem is. I did see a difference in proc rate with my than with the Wand O' Doom. Looking on Lucy at the Raw data, neither has a ProcRateMod on them, so I guess it was just RNG silliness. With trying to find out some information on proc rates, I made this:

Notice the pattern there, almost all of our best weapons came from the Gate of Discord expansion. I'd like to see some decent weapons drop for shaman now-in-days. There are a few weapons that are around 1:1 ratios, but the damage is pretty low on most of them. Some of them do have nicer effects, but overall, GoD is hard to beat weapon-wise.

Shame you'll get 1-2 rounded on most tacvi+ fights, although we had a shaman tank tacvi trash on our last tacvi run he he .

I use for tanking, not sure how the dps is but I like the crits. Got the mace from a chest from some DoD mission.

At 305 DEX,

PPM = 2 * ( (100 + ProcRateMod) / 100 )

So, for a standard ZERO ProcRateMod weapon, the Procs Per Minute would be

PPM = 2 * ( (100 + 0) / 100 )
= 2 * ( 100/100 )
= 2

That gives us the common 2 procs per minute. Higher DEX and a slower attack rate* will slightly increase the chance that you will proc on a given swing. So for shaman, the best ways to increase their weapon's procs is to buff DEX as high as possible, to NOT be hasted, and to acquire Combat Effects gear.

There is also the non-LORE Lucent Demantoid Stone from DON merchants at 450 crystals each. This is a CE + 2 aug, and goes into 6 different slots, for a potential CE +12 if you're a zealot. Aug 9 only.


I am unsure as to how CE affects spell buff procs like Panther. All I can tell you is from looking at my logs, when I'm on a roll, I'm proccing 400/900 every 3-4 seconds, on average. Currently I have CE +17 when I melee or tank.


* Due to lower variance, as the mathematicians at The Steel Warrior have discovered from their parses, a weapon's proc will go off slightly more often at a relatively slower delay. Yes, this is counter-intuitive and means un-hasted is better than hasted as far as procs are concerned. Which is why I've blocked all haste buffs from myself. Odd, but true. Here's the link. Follow Yakk's posts, esp. the last 2 on this page. Watch for the phrases lower and higher "variences" (sic).
