I really like Kozinad's post.
Yes EQ may not be perfect. Yes it may have some ugly legacy code that in terms of technology just about every big bidget MMO out there looks 100% better than EQ, yet they seem to lack 90% of the depth of content.
I think it's the depth and variety of content that makes this a compelling game.
As for customer service, after whining about Sony's poor customer service for years, I was shocked to see that Blizzard's CS was far far worse. I can't stress how surprised I was after hearing word of mouth that Blizzard CS was legendary and this is a big reason to play WOW. It regularly took 4-5 days just to get a response from a GM, and resolution on serious issues (e.g. unlootable item bugs from raidbosses) took as long as 14 days sometimes.
A lot of the time your petitions would get 100% form responses in such a way as to make obvious that the GM didn't even read what you wrote!
When i came back to EQ in 2005 I was a bit disappointed to see that there were far far fewer GMs (visible) in the game. However I have been pleasantly surprised that all my petitions have been replied to in 24 hours or less, and although they have a form structure, they do actually reply to the points I made in my petition (with only 1 exception which took a few petitions to get my point across).
EQ is really not that bad. Don't take my word for it, cancel your subscription, try some of the other games on the market. You will be pleasantly surprised when you come back to EQ.
PS Just a big shout to the Ubisoft GMs we had on Venril Sathir. They actually seemed to care about their work and created a lot of interesting events for us to get involved in.
