Okay 2000ac has been one of my targets for sometime and last night thanks to Hanvar and a new shiney shield I've finally broke through it! Yay me! However I'm not a number cruncher, and I've heard a couple of discussions in guildchat which nobody could answer so I thought I'd ask my beloved shaman community to come to the rescue:

1) What is the max ac cap a shaman can have.

2) What is the ac cap for other classes.

3) Can anyone give a definitive explanation on how ac works within the EQ game.

There is a cap?

well, AC is like HP in that it doesn't have a hardcap.

but there is a softcap...iirc its fairly low....somewhere between 1-1.5k, maybe lower.

I'm right at 2k unbuffed, but everytime I have buffs outside of my own, I'm over 2k, there is a small noticable difference, to me at least, on average mob hits.

Even when you get it, though, the 20ac doesn't have to be > BGoT. It only has to be better than your worst other augment, since the BiC could replace that other one instead. For me I'm pretty sure 20ac (in the shield) is worth the hp off've any currently available 20th hp augment. It doesn't have to beat the top19, just the 20th. I will loot the Antraygus augment if it ever becomes available, though, obviously. And be very very happy about it

He meant to say that the base soft cap for the class hasn't changed. Mitigation AAs obviously raise the cap accordingly.

This board is definitely nice, you just have to know who to listen to, when they actually try to help you out(not aimed at anyone btw).

If you want to know what the highest obtainable shield slot AC augment in game is for shaman, then I can tell you, that it's the http://lucy.allakhazam.com/item.html?id=68108 from the Mistmoore LDoN raid. The fact that no other AC aug above 20 has ever been created for casters(except Clerics) before and since then, speaks volumes and should make any question regarding AC and shields a no-brainer.
Anyone having a pure HP/Mana augment in their shield slot is a self mutilator.

I doubt that's the reason they don't have any decent 20+ AC augs. You're giving their itemization team entirely too much credit.
