I remember a higher level toon asking for somone to bring them food/water in Butrcherblock Mountains and offering 10pp for a stack of each! I ran to provide the goodies. It was a dark elf necro who couldn't buy on Faydwer.

Then she started killing the Dwarf guards. I was so mad, I didn't know what to do. I couldn't attack her, and I was a level 5 Paladin with no spells to use. I think that warped me for life, heh.

The ability to cast beneficial spells on mobs was taken away because of griefing on raid mobs, in the same sweep that added poison counters to slows so that they couldn't be dispelled.

I remember being able to give items to mobs and then they would appear on the corpse. We did a guild event in the EF newbie zone where we gave a load of stuff away like this, and the noobs were wondering wtf was going on when their spiderling kill had great twink gear on it.

I remember no one being high enough level to bind you.

I remember not having magic weapons and virtually no spells which meant having to run away or die from mobs that were 'magic'.
I remember falling down the tree trap in Blackburrow and not being able to get my corpse back.
I remember camping specific Gnolls in Blackburrow so I could loot their arrows.
I remember blundering into Meldrath and needing a Rogue to drag my corpse out.
I remember being stunned when a normal mob saw through invis (in Crushbone).
I remember rolling a DE Necro and deleting him as learning the layout of Neriak seemed just impossible.
I remember when Necro pets dual wielding FS daggers could just rip the arse out of pretty much anything on its own.
I remember people getting blinded by Muddites and thinking their PC had crashed.
I remember evil SKs FD flopping all the way to the Freeport bank.
I remember Manastone spam.
I remember having to wait on a list for popular camps.
I remember the first Mistwalker nerf.

I remember the trains in Mistmoore.
I remember when Paludal Caverns was new and how it brought the absolute worst out in people.
I remember Sol B and Lower Guk being full and having practically nowhere else to xp.
I remember secretly hoping to get charmed so I could possibly kill group members I didn't like.
I remember thinking Vox would be the hardest mob I'd ever fight.
I remember zoning into Kedge Keep and thinking "how the hell did anyone EVER find this zone?"
I remember the first time I saw Bilge Farfathom on track.
I remember spending an entire Sunday leading a raid on Guk (to get myself a FBSS) and losing all the rolls. To Druids even.
I remember when root and snare didn't stack.
I remember racial, hybrid and class xp penalties.
I remember zoning into Karnor's Castle for the first time and 50% of my group dying inside the first 15 seconds to a massive train.
I remember when you had to break into Hate and hope you could port people up faster than they would die.
I remember Fear being by some distance the hardest zone in the game and being completely lagged out by corpses.
I remember when people sold you stuff by showing you all they had in bags.
I remember being extremely proud of being able to get to ToV by myself without dying.
I remember wiping my first guilds proper raid in Kael with a crappy pull.
I remember being so lagged out by the trees in Burning Woods I couldn't tell which direction I was going in.
I remember animal fear kiting the dogs inside Chardok. I remember dying a lot.
I remember power levelling people from level 1 who then server moved and joined uber guilds.

So i started more like early 2001, but still nostalgic to read.

I remember all the people i leveled up with.
And i defintly remember race mattering, thats why i am a barbarian shaman, it just sucked with my first charecter being ogre.

You know, i think the thing i remember most, is when i got tagged in my first guild, then every bit of drama because the guild leader looted that SK epic sword in the hole when we went down for MY epic 1.0 , then lied and said he destroyed it....then tried bribing me witht half the profit of him selling it.

I remember first seeing the Triton tag so long ago , finding out they were the top guild on the server and then saying to myself...man ...i'll never be good enough to join them.

I started playing EQ in 2003 when Stromm was just a couple of months old. My friends who hounded me into trying EQ told me to buy Trilogy, but Best Buy didn't have it, so I ended up buying PoP, because it also included the original game. This turned out to be a good thing, because I think I would have quit playing within a month if I hadn't been able to travel so easily. I remember duoing with my paladin and another paladin in East Commonlands. When he died, he asked me to guard his corpse. I thought, "WTF?" but said, "OK." Finally I asked him why I needed to guard his corpse and he told me that he didn't want someone to loot it. I tried looting his corpse, but of course I couldn't. Turns out he used to play on a Zek server and didn't realize that the ruleset was different on Stromm.

A couple of months later, I bought Luclin and created Kiru (who's name came from the random name generator after all of the names that I tried for were rejected). I remember being annoyed at the shaman and druids who advertized that they were selling SoW, some of whom demanded at least 1 plat. When Kiru turned 9, I set up "shop" at the Nexus stone. My spam was simply "SoW at Nexus. Hail the cute kitty." I SoWed anyone and everyone and learned about SoW stacking issues. I also made 275 plat that night (yeah, I stayed up all night). Folks would flock to me, because I wasn't demanding payment. Many would give me 2 to 5 plat when the demanders, who were higher level with faster SoW, were asking for 1 plat - one even gave me 10 plat and a guildie gave me piece of Ry`Gor chain armor after I refused his payment - I wore that armor piece for a very long time.

Soon after, I bought Anthology and was caught up. I've bought every expansion since (I even had two accounts for a year when I was playing mostly on FV). I remember some of the things you old-timers remember and am very grateful that I did not encounter a good many of the things that you remember.

Just to start, I have not been playing EQ for quite some time now but I still remember my first memories. They are quite different than others since I was a troll.

- Being unable to see a thing in Grobb. Had a friend trying to help and I couldnt see HIM.
- Killing an entire group in Upper Guk when I went afk in the tunnel.
- Pissing people off who couldnt get passed me to get to Lower Guk because I afked in the tunnel.
- Shouting for help when camping the undead tower in the swamp when a mummy spawned instead of zombie or skeleton.
- Soloing the orc on the hill and getting excited to do derv camps.
- Crashing the first time I attempted to go to the docks in Oasis
- Crashing the first time I attempted to get to do anything in NRo.
- Crashing the first time I attempted to get near the Hill Giants.
- Not having any idea what the heck yawning was and thinking it was like a Harmony spell that never worked.
- Being scared to death of the Dark Deathsinger.
- Being scared to death of anything that was bigger than me.
- Losing an ENTIRE level worth of xp (was bearly into 30 and ended up a few blues from 28) because I didnt know what a freaking rez was.
- Being fascinated by pets.
- Being fascinated by Golden Efreeti Boots
- Drooling over a Slime Coated Harpoon
- Freaking out over Totemic gear
- Getting a +70hp ring and thinking I *was* a real tank
- Getting an entire Overthere group to believe that I *was* a real tank
- Laughing my ass off as Dragoons killed my group.
- Losing my mind when a friend went LD and left me alone in Cazic Thule.
- Farming lizards outside CT for cash.
- Literally falling asleep on the boat to OT.
- Thinking the pots in TD were a hack.
- Binding myself in the WORST possible places and getting chain killed for a few hours.
- Getting lost everywhere I went.......... literally.
- Zone times getting to ~5minutes a few expansion in without upgrading my comp.
- Breaking out a book to read while zoning.
- Getting Blight and thinking I WAS teh uber melee DPS.
- Thinking complete heal was game breaking.

Thats all I can think of right now. I wish a progression server would open up today. I've been missing classic EQ, not the current version.
