I dont think it is necessarily to much of a problem for casual players, but for guilds this is a serious issue. EQ is an old game, which means there isnt much new blood coming in. Also, most people who would or might raid probably are allready doing so. Combined that means that when attrition takes its toll it is very difficult for all but perhaps the server's top guild to replace losses with reasonably consistent people.
Personally I would like to see ongoing expansions taking this aging into account and start moving over to smaller raid structures similar to EQ2. Something like 24-30 players would be good. WoW is going that way now too, probably in recognition of the same basic problem (it was a major problem for the guild I'm in there too btw, at least with the old 40 man raids - the new 25 man ones are less susceptible to those pressures)
