In group play, many times the pre-TSS version is preferable to the TSS version of the spell:
TSS versus pre-TSS
Malis vs Malos
Ahnkaul's vs Ancient Wilslik's
Vengeance vs Nectar
Sting vs Yoppa's Rain
Halcyon vs Spiritual Serenity
Ancestral Bargain vs Pained Memory
Talisman of the Panther vs Spirit of the Panther
Juju and/or Curse of Sisslak is a toss-up, due to quick fights and mana expenditure. Admittedly, group panther is a mana sponge and causes me to work harder or be conservative at times. On the other hand, its ease of use and improved DPS for the group offset the sponge effect.
Vengeance, Juju, and Malis can be used in soloing. Ancient Wilslik's is still better for soloing. But in soloing, mana or amount of damage is not the issue. If you need more oomph, you can always stack another DOT or heal yourself again with a clicky, a potion, or an AA. Focus effects not a real, game-breaking concern.
So, given these spell choices, the general efficiency of DOTs and HOTs, and our superior mana regen, I don't see TSS focus being any kind of practical obstacle to shamans. I pour it on during group play (meleeing and keeping sloth on the MT) and still outlast the others despite OOC regen. Disabled OOC regen in raid zones is a non-issue for me as well, provided I choose and use my more efficient spells. And my old effects work pretty good on my mixture of pre- and post-TSS spells...
I just don't get all the whining about lackluster TSS focus effects.... Someone care to enlighten me?

The best solution is not either/or, but best-of.
