From the official sony boards from someone's "fan faire report" they posted:

"Slay ___ - Paladins were never supposed to have Slay Undead in its current form. Slay Undead is WAY too powerful and paladins should be thanking their lucky stars they have what they currently have. They are hesitant to put a Slay humanoid or other such ability in the game since they would do it correctly and SKs would be upset that their ability would be very limited in power compared to the broken Slay Undead. In my opinion they should do it anyways and nerf the paladin one in the process but they didn't say they were going to do either."

Beyond the part that kela wants yet another class's dps to be nerfed to sustain her ego that is annoying enough, I want to know what dev supposedly said this, because it shows a severe lack of understanding of the history of slay undead and is contradicted by the fact they have put upgrades to it in the last 2 "big cycle" expansions that came with aa.

I was there when Nodyin said that, basically I replied and said if SU was so powerful why did we get an upgrade in TBS? He back peddled and said it was due for an upgrade lolz. I think he was talking about when they seperated SU from the crit system it was made better than what they wanted. Its been upgraded twice since then, so I wouldn't worry about SU getting nerfed any time soon, hell we might even see yet another upgrade in SoF.

BTW, Annihilate Undead (which is now SU ranks 7,8,9) DO INEED give increases to frequency at 0.5%, 1.0%, and 1.5% respectively.

I am putting my money on dev sticking foot in their mouth talking about things they aren't aware of the realities of. There are 2 potential points at which slay undead rate changes are "maybe" in "error". One is the period of PoP to Omens where slay rate went from around 1.85% to 2.1%, which encompasses when slay was changed in how it works. That sure isn't the source of "way overpowered". The other is the very specific increase from SU3 to Vanquish 1, and that was known in dod beta (caladel parsed those) and as far as anyone knew was intended. If that had been a problem it would have been noted considering how much they were screwimg with our undead abilities and how much people were whining about paladin dps once dod went live.

Whatever.

I got to say, if some of the things stated at fan faire end up being true, we can kiss everquest goodbye as large numbers of people quit. 1000ish hp items for raiders and solteris level gear for non-raiders, meaning that except for bleeding edge guilds, all raid guilds are going to freaking collapse or just stop raiding for 6 months while people do single group stuff, so that they can raid solteris, during which half the guilds collapse and you end up with 3-5 guilds per server that do any raiding at all.

Let's see, the obsoletion of old content is ramped up, we can basically buy items in eq from sony with these new "loot cards" in this card game they are pimping. WTF is going on here? The last year has shown how little the people making decisions (which I have to believe aren't the devs we deal with regularly because they can't be this stupid) understand this game and the people that play it.

1,000 sounds like a lot, but this stuff -does- have to keep people amused for an entire year, so it should be about as much of an upgrade as TBS gear is from PoR gear, overall.

I'm merely used to the attitudes that go with most posters nowadays, which generally runs along the lines of 'You don't agree with and are not our class, thus your opinion does not matter in the slightest if you disagree with us'.

Kela is not exactly known for her.. shall we say.. subtlety when it comes to posting. Yes, she said they should be nerfed. But the context is completely misplaced. Its the same as the Mastery of the Past 'nerf' - which is, regardless of your opinion really a fix, not a nerf, since it was never intended to be that way.

Such is the case with Paladin Slays, as the devs believe it. Slays in their current form are not intended to be so powerful, but they are.

I disagree that Shadowknights need ANY justification for more DPS.

Paladins can heal, Root, Rez and Cure. They are the defensive, clericy knight class.

Shadowknights can...lifetap. Snare, and FD. They are currently -not- any sort of meaningful offensive, necromantic knight class.

The part that is extremely difficult to parse is specific frequency of the slay because we have never had an undead parse dummy anywhere in the game for long term parses.

The max damage for each upgrade is very easy to parse....all ya gotta do is look at your screen. The max damage on each rank of SU is fairly large (including the upgrades with DoD and TSS) and you can immediatly see the increase without a parse. Max damage has never been messed with to my knowledge (not counting initial bug fixes).

The frequency, however, could be tinkered with every single patch and it would be very difficult to prove.

You'd be surprised how fast he dies =P

Since slay is has a % rate relative to your number of hits, can parse even with multiple mobs on you. So can go to town in direwind or even undead murks if you don't care about experience.
