Lack of AC on non Raid gear

I mean one of the biggest challenges I could think of, not even related to high level content groupable or raidable... would be a character who starts at level 1 that is focused around not being twinked, even further, a character that refuses to buy items from other players, only buying off of merchants or looting. That to me is a much much greater challenge than many things at high level. Just getting to a high level with this character would be a time consuming and challenging task. That said there are quite a few different ways to challenge yourself in a game as massive as this. It would be nice if it wasn't just rewarded and designed to be rewarded around:

Raid content: Greatest rewards
Group content: Good rewards
Solo content: Lease rewards

I think Monster Missions were one of the innovations that helped inspire more challenges. I can't tell you how many monster missions I've been on with uber raiders that just don't get some of the strategies needed to accomplish. The same goes for non-raiders too... It's a new type of challenge that was quite fun and gave scaling rewards.

Why does challenge have to be synonymous with bigger and badder creatures requiring more and more people. Or why does it even have to only apply to raid strategies. I'm sure there are plenty more creative ways to implement challenging and rewarding content for those who don't like to raid or at least for those that don't focus on it.

If you don't have the flags to get into the zones where those guilds are raiding you are useless to them. Why should a raid guild bother to guils you if you cannot enter the zones they raid?

If you don't have the essential equipment to function (invis, levitate waterbreathing) to deal with the common requirements of getting to zones and hazards in those zones you are a dead weight and a hinderance.

If you haven't got the basic HP (etc) to survive the common AoE's then you are a hinderance, you will die or get low HP aggro and thus train mobs out of position onto yourself. In which case you are a coprse, not acontributing member. why should guilds let you have loot when you don't contribute?

Reason most high end guilds don't put a Gear requiremetn on is because they can gear up apps pretty quick with what woudl otehrwise be rot drops.

I hadn't noticed any gear limits in guilds (even AC/HP), but then I may have just looked at different guilds.

If anyone wants to debate whether or not Raid guilds should have high minimum requirements, or what they should be, or whether or not Raiding is more challenging then alternatives thats fine by me, but lets do that in another thread on another sub-forum.

As for the topic I agree, I think that yes the GM armor was a bit extreme (which is why my character in non-raid gear has a full set) though I don't think it was that extreme. I think that AC should be a bit higher on non-raid gear though not much more.

What I do propose is instead of giving general group-able stuff or soloable stuff better loot, have alternate forms of challenge that can be accomplished by a group. Monster Missions are a good example of this I believe. Some of them are quite challenging. Maybe Solo tasks, in fact even a step further, solo quests/tasks that are based around level range and specific classes. This would really increase the RP level of EQ (MMO RP G) while providing additional types of challenging content for those non-raiders (or even for the raiders or raiders alts)... though I definitely say make people work for their rewards, give them a lot of risk, work, and challenge, but also give them a worthy reward.
