Here are some of my parSes for you to check out.

The fights from log 3 on are more normal. I was really rusty the first 2 fights. I have been max AA/xp for a long time heheh.
I am posting from when i cast the first dot to when I get XP. Seems I can't break 900 DPS without lucky crits, magic/disease focus, nukes, or AAs. All mobs I fought were even con. My magelo link is below. (Also note, I would be able to keep this pace up for a full XP AA cast without any issue.) Last 2 fights i changes some stuff up but still got the same result.

I played around with my cast rotation, and wow ... lo I was blind all this time. Just by casting my magic dots first, followed by poison, and only then tossing on 1 disease dot, I've added 75-100 dps on my rotation. Here's a parse of my last fight (not by best). But I can keep every dot running without missing a single tick on any, and it's noticable how much quicker things are dying. Once I get the 74 and 75 dot and start using BA6 tribute, I think I'll be able to break 800 dps.

I was doing these parces next to a necro friend. He casts 5 dots on a mob and that includes snare.

I cast 9 dots and that doesn't include root/maloxxx/PD.

It's true, that is without a doubt the start of the fight (and when any parses should start to occur). Melee dps jump in and boom ... the damage starts immediately. We have to PD, run, VP, malos, THEN start laying the damage on.

Of course, then the numbers don't look so good. It's much better to count from first tick to last! *grin*

Looking at one of my fights, the parser shows:

Damage: 72,893
DPS: 707.7

But looking at the log, I started the pull 15s before the first DoT tick (MD+VP+Malo+cast first dot) - so my true DPS is actually:

Damage: 72,893
DPS: 612.5

Almost a 100 dps drop!

The only reason I mentioned it is so we are all on the same page as to what shaman root rot DPS actually looks like. The last thing we want is for some moron from another class to get pissed off at our leet root rot dps, and start a shit storm over it. I don't think i could handle our mediocre dots, being any more marginalized.

An interesting thing with dots is that there isn't much abillity to go 'beyond'. By that I mean - if you're a melee class, you can get better weapons, more haste, more attack, more aas, whatever, and your dps can take a HUGE jump. I'm sure the melee dps range can be from 400 to 1500 dps across all levels of gear.

Whereas with the shaman class, the range is probably 600 to 950 dps. So even undergeared shamans (ie. me) will be close-ish to raid geared shamans in terms of solo dps. Compare that to melee dps - a raid geared monk will do vastly more damage then a bazaar geared class.

So shamans do decent solo dps damage ... but they'll never do exceptional or even above average damage. Just solid, middle of the road dps.

Plus we have extra disadvantages other classes don't have. We need an open area to pull and, more importantly, a 'camp spot'. For 2 minutes, we're sitting our asses in the same spot with Mr Mob twiddling his thumbs in front of us. If you get an add ... time to gate (or hope root works). Pretty much any other class that can solo (rogues need not apply) are mobile, and can drag mobs away to a safe location while still doing damage.

Still, I love the soloing power of the shaman class. In a group, we might do 150 dps (not very mana efficiently either), but we have a lot of other things to do as well. But in a solo enviornment, our dps and power is ... in my opinion ... acceptable. I see the shaman class as the rhino of soloing classes. We won't get there fast, and you need a straight line to do it, but nothing can stop us if we get up a head of steam.

Purely for fun, I parsed myself on a couple of fights in Atiiki, the place I visit most days to burn Lesson.

I pull with VP, cast PD then lay on two nectars and Vengeance, then Juju and Curse. With an AE3 potion running, I renew the DoTs at between 50 and 60%, then the mob dies before the second batch wear off. It's not the most efficient way of doing it, but it works. Bear in mind killing in 2 minute intervals is more important to me than outright DPS.

Anyway, canni-ing when I can and with a resist on Juju, I ended up just under 700 DPS. My foci are:

Affliction Efficiency 6 (can't beat up to 25% mana savings)
Burning Affliction 6 (for magic DoTs) and
Vergalid's Blood (30% poison focus)


When it comes to yellow-conning nameds in Atiiki I have to go into "DPS mode" - less canni, more DoTs.

I pull with VP, debuff with PD then swap in a disease DoT. I land 2 of the three poisons, cast the disease, swap it out for another disease, cast the 3rd poison DoT then the 2nd disease. That's then swapped out for Yoppa, I cast the two magic DoTs, then Yoppa, then renew the other poison DoTs. It sounds far more complicated than it is, really.

Anyway, that allows me to push towards 850 DPS. I'd imagine a raider with 60% foci could reach 1K DPS without too many problems, in all honesty.
