Ventrilo on Dial-Up?

Postby Firoc » Tue Aug 19, 2008 3:37 am

I'm considering joining a guild that uses Ventrilo constantly and I have a very low speed connection (24.0kbs anyone?) Due to having a newer laptop I find I am able to box 2 toons on this connection with little lag, or to raid w/ one just fine (seems to have greatly improved w/ some of the improvements SOE has made in the last year)

Anyway, my question is, does anyone have any experience with Ventrilo on dial-up, and, how bad does it suck? :)

Ouch, not even 56k?

I remember trying a couple of calls early when it first came out and I was on dialup. It was fairly laggy back then, but I'm sure the software's improved.

EQ bandwidth usage may have also improved, but I remember changing some settings so that the servers weren't sending as much detailed information, to cut down on my lag when I was on dialup. If you run into problems, you may be able to tweak these to improve things.

I'm on teh 24kbps schtick atm as well, and I've never been able to get Ventrilo working well enough to be worth using...esp. not while using EQ (esp. raiding).
