Patcher problems

With the coming progression server my husband is wanting to start playing the game again. He has intalled eq but when he tries to patch it acts like it is searching for updated files but then will not respond at all. I am not a computer person so cannot help him and he is out of ideas as to what to try. Can anyone give some advice on how to fix it?

Just ctl-alt-del, kill the eq processes, and restart. When there's a lot of patching, sometimes you have to bounce it a few times.
