I came to think that it could be a good idea to exchange ideas and setups, and offer some insight into how different shaman play their game. Take myself for instance - for me it's mostly about having as many tools available as possible, relaxing and fun gameplay and feeling the my effort matters, regardless of what I'm currently doing. And the latest patches really made a difference in that department. (please bare with me if this post isn't too informative, eh heh)

After the mouse patch, I haven't playing in fullscreen mode a second. I started by resizing my desktop to 1792 X 1344 pixels, in order tp place my 1600 X 1200 EQ window in the middle of the desktop. No more jumping in and out of fullscreen mode, freezing up the game and whathaveyounot just to look up an item or Quest or the lastest posts on these boards.

Then there is the new UI. I combined it with my old, and assigned a lot of keys, so that most actions are just a keystroke away:
1: Fast heal [/g Casting fast heal on %T. Please stay in range...]
2: Canni
3: Clicky Root pants
4: Balance of the Nihil [with a note to shaman channel on raids or just a /pet attack in groups]
5: Malos [/g casting Malos on %T. or just a note to shaman channel on raids]
6: Assist
7: Nothing when soloing or raiding. Spirit of the Jaguar in groups.
8: Letting group or raid channel know that mob has been slowed.
9: HoT
10: Canni AA
Numpad Keys:
1: /target Raidleader
2: Clicky Levitation
3: /Pet Report (I never use it, so have to put something else there)
4: /target Raid MT
5: Clicky Skellie Illusion (I muselook, and click my illusion whenever I need to center the screen)
6: /corpsedrop
7: /target ST or MA
8: /corpsedrag
9: AE slow while letting group and raid channel know what I'm doing, so that someone can snatch the aggro
0: Turgur' Insects and a note to shaman channel

Delete: Clicky Heal Potion
Page Down: /em the papertank is dancing with %t. Feel free to switch partners...[my Dance of Death emoticon, you have no idea how many times I'm "offtanking" the adds on raids while all the other tanks are assisting the MT  ]

And lastly, the Audio Triggers. a heavensent for someone like me. Now I only need to pay attention to the imortant stuff, while the triggers keep me updated on the battle spam and such:

This is my silent Audio Trigger.

Some other sounds I have not yet put to use (I have downloaded literally hundreds after Audio Triggers was introduced)

And so on and so on.....
Finally, a couple of screenshots of my UI:
<a href="http://home.broadpark.no/~ggisvold/images/Enormious01.JPG" target="_blank" class="postlink"><img src="http://home.broadpark.no/~ggisvold/images/Enormiousthumb01.JPG" border="0" /></a><br>

In the hopes that this could serve as some kind of source for inspiration, and that others might have something to share as well,

This is precisely what someone like me needs, thank you.

I've been playing with sound off for over a year, and now I find that I don't have sound. At all. Headphones in, nada. I go to Sounds and Audio Devices (XP) and everything is greyed out except "No Audio Device". I've re-OSed this thing about annually, and the Add Hardware Wizard can't find a driver for (is this the right thing?) "Multimedia Audio Controller".

I have a call in to Falcon-NW; any advice while I wait for a callback?

i ran into that on a built PC, put new sound cards in and everything. eventually i just accepted i have no sound...untill i got drunk
and decided my PC fans and coolers needed dusting and sprayed the mother board down with that "can o'cleaner spray" and fried
that puppy...i cracked the processor and who knows what else because i didnt bother even turning off my pc let alone unplugging
it...cold air (and liquid if you shake while spraying) ARE VERY BAD for a hot, running, energized processor

so dont get drunk and try to fix it sam

I may finally activate sound for triggers, but not for any of this. Not even for OMM or Hatchet emotes. I find the one that may actually motivate me is "Soandso is ensnared." - proc from Tunare stick. It's really likely to be lost in spell spam since procs can't be filtered separately, and I really want to know when it hits, so that I can stop taking ripostes. And since I group more with necromancers than rangers or druids, it won't bug me so much in groups.

Hmmm.

When I open the Audio Trigger window, I can type a pattern into the pattern slot; but when I click on the sound slot, I just get a drop-down red bar. I am unable to type the name of a sound file into that slot. Anyone else experience this?

Also all the create / apply buttons are grayed out.

Clearly something is missing, but I don't see what it is.

I finally went and set some up.

One for key buffs received (so I can say thanks) - brell's, conviction, steeloak, clairvoyance, symbol/mark.

One for crack wearing off - clairvoyance, maelin's, elixir of clarity

One for being hit (I often don't notice right away).

One for slow or vp being resisted.

It was pretty easy, I should have done it sooner. Is there a string for when an AA or a clicky becomes available? Guessing not...

Re-posting the guide I threw together today for my guild. Lots of help from guildies on this, so don't give me all the credit.

Audio Triggers De-Mystified
Audio Triggers function by parsing for select lines of text in your client and when found respond by playing an audio alert. Both the text and the audio alert are user configurable. The audio alert is played using your Windows default sound device not the Everquest sound engine. That means that the volume for audio triggers is controlled by the Wav volume setting in your Windows volume controls, not the volume controls you see in game. It also means that you can turn your Everquest sound completely off and as long as your Windows sound is functioning you'll still hear your audio triggers.

For example: A problem for most shaman is the short duration of some of our buffs. We commonly get distracted with other tasks and forget to refresh these buffs as they wear off. While we do get wear off messages, it is easy to lose that single line of text when concentrating on a challenging event. To assist with this, we can set up an audio trigger to key on the wear off message, "Your Spirit of the Panther spell has worn off", and respond by playing an appropriate sound., "Panther has worn off".

It is important to note that you can key off any text line that would land in your log file. That means you cant have a trigger when someone's health gets low, as that information isn't logged. You can however trigger when a CH lands. It should also be noted that if you are triggering off spells, you must be in range so you get the message that causes the trigger.

Setting up our First Audio Trigger
Now how does this work in practice? Start by logging into the game and clicking your EQ Button...Actions...Audio Triggers. You should see a menu that looks like this:

Image

Now click in the box called 'Pattern' and type in the text you'd like to trigger off of. In the example above you would type in "Your Spirit of the Panther spell has worn off". Next select a sound from the 'Sound' drop down box. This can be any one you like, and I'll show you how to add your own custom ones in a moment. Now click 'Create'. That's it! You should now see the trigger we just created in the list below and the next time your client shows that text, Windows will play the sound you selected for you.

There are a couple of other functions you can perform in this menu we should address briefly. You can edit one of your current triggers by highlighting it with your cursur, making the desired change to either your 'Pattern' or your 'Sound' and clicking 'Apply'. You can also delete a trigger by simply highlighting it with your cursor and clicking 'Delete'. The 'Play' button will play the sound associated with the currently highlighted audio trigger.

There are two more buttons that we need to address. They are 'Move Up' and 'Move Down'. This brings up the topic of precedence. As the parser recieves a new line to look for an audio trigger it starts at the top of your list and works down. If it finds a match it stops parsing that line and moves on to the next line to parse. That means that if a particular line matches multiple audio triggers, you will only ever hear the sound for the first trigger (it has a higher precedence). If you'd like to adjust the order of your triggers precedence simply highlight the trigger and press the appropriate move button.

Adding Custom Sounds
So now you probably want to customize the audio files you have available. This needs to be done with Windows not EQ, so log off or Tab out. Step one is finding an audio file you want. These can be anything but must be in the .wav format. There are tons of sources for these and you can easily google a zillion to choose from. You could also record your own using the Windows sound recorder. Or you can create custom sounds with a text to speach engine. Here are some popular resources for finding .wav files to use for audio triggers:

Now that you've found your sounds all you need to do is move them to the appropriate folder in your Everquest directory. Open explorer and browse to the following folder relative to your Everquest root directrory: ...AudioTriggers\shared. For example mine is located at: C:\Program Files\Sony\Everquest\AudioTriggers\shared

Copy your new custom sounds into that folder. Now when you re-open your Audio Triggers menu from within Everquest and you'll have the new sounds available to select along with the default ones. Have fun!

Quick Steps to set up an Audio Trigger
1. Find custom sound files (optional)
2. Copy custom sound files to your AudioTriggers\shared folder (optional)
3. Click the EQButton...Actions...AudioTriggers
4. Click in the box called Pattern and type the text you'd like to parse for.
5. Select a Sound from the Sound drop down box
6. Click Create

Guild policy not to release any strat information till we're done farming. Policy is probably a little dated based on the amount of instanced content vs. contested content, but it's not my policy I just adhere to it. Shrug.
