It better not be a typical Hollywood dumbdown. Thermopylae was one of the most remarkable and pivotal events in history.

It is suprisingly consistant with history, minus the stuff they added to "entertain"

That's true, it was actually pretty accurate. Downplayed was the roll of the thespians during the fight, it was 300 spartans and around 700 thespians in actuality, and while historically there was a traitor who let the persians know of the goat paths to get behind the spartans, there was no record of the traitor being a deformed person or anything. Most of the parts of fiction put into the story were taken from the graphical novel 300 however, and not put there by the director, who was being true to the graphical novel.

Frank Miller (creator of the 300 graphic novel) has said that he'd like to revisit the subject of the Spartans in a future project, only this time as the bad guys. That could be interesting, too.

A late bump, but my wife just bought it for me on blue ray and it has been a long time since I have seen a movie that good, IMHO 2 thumbs up and 2 big toes up :)
