My observations on revised MMs

HHK was always packed, Nek was fairly packed as well but what about the other MM's? They weren't ever packed.

And why? Because most people weren't playing MM's as an alternative to grouping. They were raping the hell out of it to get virtually free AA's for little time and no risk.

It's Sony who really shot themselves in the foot on this one. Personally I'm not too crazy over MM's, they're fun to try maybe once but for some I'm sure they really enjoy them and it does really help bridge level gaps between friends and give casuals with limited play time an option to play and still get an AA or two a night. However, the fact that MM's were so out of tune and left so for so long before finally being fixed that what we get now seems like pure shit in comparrison.

Imagine if you will, the devs announce they'll be boosting XP in hot zones x2 to attract folks to those zones. Only come patch day they 1-900-MixALot something up and end up giving everyone 6 times the XP. Yet instead of changing it they keep it in for 4 months then finally tune it to what the originally was intended to be. 2 times XP only. It's still a lot better than it was originally but after the bug that was left in for so long it made it seem to be the norm and now the intended adjustment seems so terrible that people don't want to bother with those zones anymore.

Those who abused MM's were beyond spoiled and it's really too bad because MM's weren't neccesarly a bad idea... just the way they were implemented and abused were.

I don't see what is complicated or hard to understand here. The xp for the risk involved was too much, resulting in nubs with higher level characters. It's now fixed. Move on with your life.

I think many things about monster missions could have been different for them to fit better in EQ. Mostly, they should have been more challenging. Simply entering should not guarantee completion. If there are infinite respawns allowed for players, there should be similar respawns for mobs. Bindrushing and battle rezzing is actively worked against in real EQ, it should be similarly discouraged in the "MM" subset of EQ.

Secondly, the shrouds should have had some relation to the base character in archetype (tank base = tank shroud, melee base = melee shroud, caster base = caster shroud, priest base = priest shroud), to more closely translate real groups into shroud-based missions. Real groups are being nudged that way as much as possible, with clear mission statements from EQLive producers that war/pal/sk should be equally desirable (in an overall sense) as tanks, and cle/dru/shm as healers. Clear role definitions, that were thrown out the window for Monster Missions.

The challenge (<avoids the word "risk", though "risk" [of wasted time] could easily be applied) of all things should be equal to the reward. To be real about it, MM challenge should exceed the reward slightly, imo, with non-material "novelty" filling in the gap. My group of friends is, to say the least, very advanced in terms of personal progression and ability in EQ. We still do a MM here & there, as part of seeing all the game has to offer. This isn't 100% wasted time, since there is a little exp back, but when we want real solid rewards for our characters, we play our characters in real content. That should be the model for all levels of play. Have fun, fill in some game lore, get a little progress perhaps, but attempting to use MM's as a true advancement path should about equal roleplaying the Emperor of Antonica and trying to hit 70 by conquering city guards and hill giants.

My biggest problem with MMs is that I'm not a shaman and I don't have any of the AA's or gear I worked my ass of for. I worked my tail off to get where I'm at and I really enjoy it (or I would have left long ago) so... SOE wants me to play an totally blah enchanter with crap AA's and no gear for mediocre rewards? F that. I'll go farm RS and grind PoFire for exp where my skills shine thanks.

Ya know it's not MM's exactly, but the mentality that created them that has me enjoying BF2 more. I understand the draw, but I'm not sure it has any place in this game.

I've met those people on the Tribunal server too in RSS . . . Sad that I was a much more effective healer and sometimes even tank there. About risk versus reward, you can always choose to go get your corpse and never use the GH, but that's just silly. I did do some of that PoFear stuff back in the day and yes, I did loose everything on my corpse before in there (I wasn't guilded at the time). I'm happy that MM's got nerfed, I honestly never used them, even with my twink warrior who's still only 64 after all these years. If I can put the time in to learn my alt's class better, I'd much rather do that then have level 70 1000aa's just handed to me. What's the point of playing a character like that, why not just go buy one, because that's what you're doing in MM's.

Believe what you like, but hey ... simple truth here: A level 68 Ranger should know what a bow is, plain and simple,MM's or not. I'm glad to help folks, and I have done so many a time in the past, but there is a limit to what I will deal with. And Ghuur, he meant it. Guy had nothing to link for his Range slot.
